Client Relationship Manager | Design Manager

Your Role The Opportunity
As the Client Relationship Manager | Design Manager, you will join the firm at our Charlotte, NC office and be part of the Integrated Industrial Design team, reporting directly to the Market Leader. You will lead projects from design kick-off through construction to successful completion. Your work will require you to have highly developed expertise in multi-discipline design coordination, project management, all phases of architectural design, project management software knowledge, and nurturing client relationships. This role serves as a key point of contact for our clients, providing regular updates on progress, collecting design information needs, communicating changes, and fostering strategic and meaningful professional client relationships.
The Role Priorities
- Collaborate internally and with our design consulting partners (civil, structural, process, MEP, etc.) to lead multi-discipline design teams through each project phase, ensuring coordination and project technical correctness.
- Accountable for nurturing and expanding client connections by harnessing capabilities and ensuring robust team performance.
- Collaborate with Market and Client Leaders to assist in creating focused strategies to elevate and expand client relationships, leading to new project opportunities.
- Understand and lead the successful delivery of projects in accordance with the contracted scope of work, deliverables, schedule, and fees.
- Responsible for leading preparation, ensuring Team readiness, and executing project kick-off meetings, design progress workshops, weekly A/E Team meetings, formal design reviews, etc., with multi-discipline project teams, clients, equipment suppliers, and contracting partners to meet our clients' business needs.
- Ensure all design documentation is executed in accordance with BHDP quality control and quality assurance processes at each project phase.
- Aid in preparation and provide peer review of select RFQ / RFP responses, including scope narrative, execution schedule, and consulting fees.
- Attend and participate in select client and project pursuit interviews with the IID Client Leaders and Market Leader.
- Regularly meet with the IID Market Leader to provide project status.
- Collaborate with the Director of Operations to ensure projects are appropriately staffed, and staffing forecast needs are communicated in a timely manner.
- Apply interpersonal communication skills to build strong working relationships, resolve conflicts, and motivate the project team.
- Nurture relationships with existing clients while managing client expectations.
Skills Qualifications
- A professional, accredited degree in architecture with 10 years of experience
- Architectural license preferred.
- Experience with Industrial Manufacturing projects and clients highly desired.
- Demonstrated experience in managing and leading multi-discipline project teams.
- Excellent time management, prioritization, and organizational skills, with the ability to complete projects on time, with precision and attention to detail.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Project, Microsoft Suite, Bluebeam, Deltek Vantagepoint.
- Strong communication skills.
- Demonstrated project design management and staff leadership success.
- Ability to travel as required to perform project work and deliver expected results. Travel is expected to be in the range of 10-15%, however flexibility will be required depending on the project phase and progress.
