Summary Description of Classification:

The Principal provides the vision and leadership to promote and sustain high academic achievement for all students and successfully carry out the implementation of the District’s strategic plan; exhibits thorough knowledge and traits of an instructional leader; displays proficiency in the integration of instructional technology; demonstrates operational and financial acumen; and deals sensitively and responsibly with the community, central office, and all internal and external customers.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance;
  • Provide instructional leadership;
  • Oversee the school climate;
  • Provide human resource administration to maintain effective operations;
  • Oversee the staff evaluation process;
  • Provide school management and local school operations oversight;
  • Manage communication and community relations at the local school;
  • Maintain professionalism and a cohesive learning environment;
  • Support continual student achievement; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or District staff.

  • Coordinate safety, daily operations and maintenance of the facility;
  • Manage financial resources effectively;
  • Demonstrate effective communication;
  • Communicate with staff, students, parents and families;
  • Demonstrate professional standards for the principalship;
  • Exhibit ethical behavior;
  • Participate in professional development for continuous improvement;
  • Exert influence on teaching quality and student learning by encouraging, supporting and facilitating; and
  • Set, support and sustain a focus on school goals and student achievement, using data as a guide.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Master’s degree or above is required.
  • 6 years of successful experience in K-12 education required.
  • Experience as a principal, assistant principal, dean or other school-based leadership experience required.
  • GaPSC certification in Education Leadership – Tier II at L-5 or higher or be eligible for a non-renewable Education Leadership while completing Education Leadership.
  • Experience in urban school preferred.

Salary/Terms/Benefits:

  • 215-day work year.
  • Salary based on certification and experience; placement on the Principal Salary Schedule
  • Excellent benefits package (including health insurance; dental, vision, and life insurance; employee assistance program); personal and sick leave; membership in Teachers' Retirement System.
