Principal - Elementary School

Summary Description of Classification:
The Principal provides the vision and leadership to promote and sustain high academic achievement for all students and successfully carry out the implementation of the District’s strategic plan; exhibits thorough knowledge and traits of an instructional leader; displays proficiency in the integration of instructional technology; demonstrates operational and financial acumen; and deals sensitively and responsibly with the community, central office, and all internal and external customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance;
2. Provide instructional leadership;
3. Oversee the school climate;
4. Provide human resource administration to maintain effective operations;
5. Oversee the staff evaluation process;
6. Provide school management and local school operations oversight;
7. Manage communication and community relations at the local school;
8. Maintain professionalism and a cohesive learning environment;
9. Support continual student achievement; and
10. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or District staff.

Education, Training and Experience:

1. Master’s degree or above is required.
2. 6 years of successful experience in K-12 education required.
3. Experience as a principal, assistant principal, dean or other school-based leadership experience required.
4. GaPSC certification in Education Leadership – Tier II at L-5 or higher or be eligible for a non-renewable Educational Leadership while completing Education Leadership.
5. Experience in urban school preferred.

Salary/Terms/Benefits:

1. 215-day work year.
2. Salary based on certification and experience; placement on the Principal Salary Schedule
