Bicycle molecules are fully synthetic short peptides constrained with small molecule scaffolds to form two loops that stabilize their structural geometry. This constraint facilitates target binding with high affinity and selectivity, making Bicycle molecules attractive candidates for drug development. The company is evaluating zelenectide pevedotin (previously BT8009), a Bicycle Conjugate (BTC) targeting Nectin-4, a well-validated tumor antigen; BT5528, a BTC targeting EphA2, a historically undruggable target; and BT7480, a Bicycle Tumor-Targeted Immune Cell Agonist (Bicycle TICA) targeting Nectin-4 and agonizing CD137, in company-sponsored clinical trials. We enjoy a highly active and engaged culture, and as we continue to expand, are looking to grow our team with the addition of a skilled and motivated Patent Attorney.Reporting into the Head of Intellectual Property, the successful appointee will have the following key responsibilities : Acquire detailed understanding of the technologies, products and R&D activities of the business.Supervise and collaborate with outside counsel engaged in drafting and prosecuting patent applications and in post-grant challenges.Counsel key technical and business personnel on intellectual property matters and licensing opportunities.Interact with colleagues in the US and UK daily to provide IP advice.Engage regularly with R&D teams and monitor intellectual property generation.Direct and analyse patent and FTO searches and opinions on validity, non-infringement and patent avoidance of third-party patents.Advise on IP related litigation.Provide patentability evaluation of IP related to internal or external projects.Review proposed research papers and other publications for any impact on existing patent estate.Monitor scientific and patent literature for patentability and strategic purposes.Assist in managing intellectual property due diligence to support business development transactions and company financings.Provide intellectual property specific input to support legal agreement negotiation as part of business development transactions.Managing external relationships with outside patent and legal counsel, collaborators, and business partners.Provide intellectual property related input for SEC / NASDAQ related company disclosures.We appreciate the flexibility and benefit from hybrid working so for this opportunity we envisage you working from our offices in Granta Park, Cambridge, UK 1-2 days per week with the remainder of your time home working.Qualifications UK and EP qualified patent attorney, with life sciences experience.A combination of in-house and private practice experience preferred.PhD / Post doc ideally with an organic chemistry focus.Comfortable having regular interactions with the bench scientists.Thorough understanding of, and very comfortable with peptide / chemistry.Highly collaborative, strong relationship building skills with a high level of integrity.Resilient and able to work effectively in a demanding and fast-paced environment.The incoming patent counsel will be expected to be industrious, outgoing, and able to foster strong relationships at all levels of the company to become a trusted advisor. They should also be commercially orientated and highly competent across the fundamentals of the IP and life sciences product life cycle. The candidate should also be sufficiently adaptable to meet the company’s current needs and take on greater scope of responsibilities as the company grows.
