Big Bend Community College is seeking an organized and motivated individual to join our team as a Workforce Education Program Specialist 2 serving the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) programs. This role offers an opportunity to collaborate with faculty, students, and community partners in the coordination and management of BBCC’s two BAS programs: Bachelor of Applied Science- Applied Management (BAS-AM) and Bachelor of Applied Science-Behavioral Health (BAS-BH). The ideal candidate will balance program management, student support, and operational tasks to ensure smooth program operations.
This is a non-permanent, partially grant-funded position and expected to continue through September 2027. This is a hybrid position, requiring a regular on-campus presence with opportunities for remote work.
Under general direction, this position works closely with the Dean of Workforce Education, program faculty and staff to provide instructional, student, and clerical support for the BAS Programs. Reporting to the Director of Title V and Other Grants, the Program Specialist will work in a team environment to facilitate a positive experience for students. This is a full-time position and is overtime eligible.

Serve as the primary point of contact for Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) students, offering guidance from program entry through graduation. Provide one-on-one and small group advising to prospective and current students related to academic planning, career goals, degree completion, and addressing concerns that may arise. Help students navigate admissions, registration, and financial aid processes in collaboration with other campus departments. Support student onboarding and enrollment activities to ensure a smooth transition into the program. Building and maintaining positive relationships with industry representatives within the service district is an essential component of ensuring students are well-informed and connected to potential career pathways. In this role, you will ensure that all students feel supported and are directed to the resources they need to succeed academically.
Program Management & Coordination
In this role, you will work closely with program faculty and staff to support instructional activities for BAS courses. This includes preparing course documentation, providing essential course information, and offering on-site and remote instructional support. You will also assist with course and program outcomes and assessments, ensuring all instructional components align with program goals. You will oversee the scheduling and coordination of student, course, and program orientations, ensuring a seamless transition for participants. Additionally, you will support ongoing program improvement efforts through continuous evaluation, provide feedback, and contribute to the development of program audit reports.
Problem-Solving & Program Operations
A key aspect of this position is problem-solving and addressing operational challenges within the workforce education programs. Maintaining accurate program and student data will be critical, and you will collaborate with the Admissions & Registration office to screen and recommend admission decisions for program applicants. The role also includes performing clerical and administrative duties to support the programs’ daily operations, ensuring proper student record coding. The Program Specialist will be expected to assist with resolving any issues related to admissions, registration, advising, and financial aid, working closely and proactively with campus resources to ensure smooth processes for all students. This position will assist with the implementation and reporting of Title V and Perkins grant activities and Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment (CLNA) strategies related to BAS programs, and provide necessary data and documentation to support grant compliance and reporting.
Program Outreach and Communication
As the program specialist, you will play a vital role in outreach and recruitment efforts for the BAS programs. This includes representing the programs at internal and external events, such as career fairs, school visits, and informational sessions. They will be responsible for providing potential students with program information, addressing inquiries, and fostering relationships with key stakeholders. The program specialist will also work in collaboration with the Communications Office and program team deliver a targeted outreach campaign, create and disseminate promotional materials including social media, text messaging, and other strategies that effectively highlight the program offerings. Attendance at academic and student services meetings is also required to stay aligned with campus-wide initiatives and goals. Program Specialists are also required to prepare materials and participate in regular program advisory committee meetings, including recruitment for new committee members.

- Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
- Ensure no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to security and safety, understanding of SDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting, and body mechanics.
- Ensure compliance with college policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.
- Conduct self in a professional manner and ensure the interaction with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive to the college’s values.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION REQUIRE EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE IN:
- Experience using computers, spreadsheets, data entry and retrieval systems, and word processing software including Excel, Word, and Outlook to accomplish daily work

REQUIRED WORK SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is sedentary in nature with frequent repetitive hand and wrist motions. Frequent use of computers and exposure to computer screens in performing work assignments. Frequent need for oral and written communications and ability to successfully monitor in-person and online testing for compliance with outside agencies’ regulations. Occasional need to kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, and lift (up to) 25 lbs. in an office environment.
Basic work schedule is 7:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Thursday and 7:30am to 2:00pm on Friday. Hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of the department and various events.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
At the time of application, all candidates must possess the following:
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- One (1) year of experience delivering and/or coordinating services.
- Direct experience providing quality customer service to internal and external customers.
- Working knowledge of office software and technology including the Microsoft Office suite (specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams) and Zoom.
- A current/valid, unrestricted driver's license from Washington or another state.
- Current valid automobile insurance.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- One (1) year of experience delivering and/or coordinating services such as advising, mentoring, and/or coaching to students in a higher education setting.
- Previous experience with student information systems such as PeopleSoft.
- Familiarity with Canvas or equivalent learning management system.
- Previous experience working in higher education, particularly in a community college.
- Experience with data management such as collecting, storing, analyzing, and reporting.
- Bicultural experience.
