Job Summary:
As an Automation Specialist, you’ll handle the installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of automation equipment used in upstream and midstream oil and gas operations. Working closely with the electrical division to commission, implement and troubleshoot PLC’s, SCADA, and networks.

  • Troubleshooting of motor starters and various models of VFD’s.
  • Installs, troubleshoots, and maintains electrical, pneumatic, and process controls.
  • Work with the field Instrumentation and Electrical Team assisting with troubleshooting and maintenance where required.
  • Installation and troubleshooting of Modbus devices.
  • Assists with maintenance and operation of sites.
  • Program and troubleshoot PLC based control systems including Allen-Bradley (PLC 5, SLC, Control Logix), SCADAPacks, IDECs.
  • Design, Program, and Troubleshoot HMI’s
  • Perform functional check out of new or modified systems.
  • Set up and maintain process control networks using Ethernet, Modbus, ControlNet, Profibus and other Automation specific protocols.
  • Read, understand, and troubleshoot electrical prints and P&IDs.
  • Document Automation/SCADA systems per established procedures.
  • Assist with forecasting electrical, automation and instrumentation needs for expansion projects.
Knowledge, Skills & Ability:
  • Proficiency with Rockwell Automation programming software.
  • Understand electrical prints and P&IDs.
  • Knowledge of PLC control panels, relay logic, 24 VDC UPS systems.
  • Upstream oil and gas process knowledge.
  • Midstream oil and gas process knowledge.
  • Knowledge in different instrumentation brands including Rosemount, E&H, Oleum Tech, Vega, etc.
  • Calibrating and setting up GWR’s, PIT’s, Analyzers, and flow meters.
  • Setting up and troubleshooting Modbus devices.
  • Basic knowledge in ABB TotalFlows and Emerson ROC’s.
Qualifications:
  • Four (4) years minimum Automation/I&E experience, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
  • Ability to work an on-call rotational schedule.
  • Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and concentrate on detailed information in a fast-paced and demanding work environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities.
  • Subject to DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing.
  • Must maintain a legal US Driver’s License.
  • Ability to complete work at job sites.
Office Location and Travel:
Our office is based in Monahans, Texas. As part of your role, you’ll be traveling to various job locations across the Permian Basin, which includes West Texas and New Mexico. Rest assured; the company will provide you with a work vehicle for your convenience.

Working Environment & Conditions
The person in this role may experience brief exposure to ambient temperature ranges from 27°F to 110°F. Typical job duties include standing, walking, sitting, using hands to handle objects and controls, reaching with hands and arms, and engaging in verbal communication. The workload may require extended periods of sitting in vehicles working with laptops.
