Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Big Rig Body Shop Operations Manager to lead our body shop team and ensure the smooth, efficient, and profitable operation of the facility. This role will be responsible for overseeing customer interactions, maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the facility, managing body shop technicians, ensuring high levels of technician efficiency, and monitoring shop revenue. The ideal candidate will be experienced in body shop management, with a strong ability to streamline job flow, foster a positive work environment, and drive business performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Interaction & Satisfaction:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, ensuring excellent communication and high satisfaction throughout the repair process.
- Address customer concerns and inquiries promptly, offering solutions and ensuring the timely completion of services.
- Maintain positive, long-term customer relationships and drive repeat business through exceptional service.
- Facility Cleanliness & Organization:
- Ensure the body shop facility is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, organization, and safety.
- Oversee daily housekeeping tasks, including tools, parts, and equipment organization, ensuring that the work environment is always clean, safe, and ready for operations.
- Develop and enforce facility maintenance schedules to prevent downtime and ensure all equipment is functioning properly.
- Team Management & Technician Efficiency:
- Supervise and lead a team of body shop technicians, including assigning tasks, setting performance goals, and providing ongoing coaching and support.
- Monitor technician efficiency, productivity, and quality of work to ensure repairs are completed on time and to the highest standards.
- Implement performance metrics and tracking systems to assess individual technician performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Coordinate and schedule technician shifts to ensure maximum efficiency and workflow.
- Job Flow & Operations Management:
- Develop and implement processes to ensure a smooth, organized job flow throughout the day, minimizing downtime and bottlenecks.
- Work closely with technicians to ensure timely completion of jobs and effective handling of multiple tasks and vehicle repairs.
- Create job schedules that optimize shop capacity, ensuring that all jobs are assigned and completed efficiently.
- Revenue Monitoring & Profitability:
- Oversee shop revenue, including tracking work orders, parts usage, labor costs, and repair time to ensure profitability.
- Work with management to set pricing and estimate repairs for clients, ensuring competitive rates while maintaining a healthy margin.
- Track and monitor repair costs and efficiency, identifying opportunities for cost savings and revenue growth.
- Quality Control & Safety Compliance:
- Ensure that all repairs meet or exceed industry standards and customer expectations for quality.
- Enforce safety protocols and regulatory compliance in accordance with OSHA and other relevant body shop and automotive repair standards.
- Conduct regular quality control inspections to ensure repairs are completed correctly and vehicles are returned to customers in optimal condition.
- Staff Development & Training:
- Develop and implement training programs to enhance the technical skills of body shop employees and ensure they are up to date with the latest repair techniques and technologies.
- Provide mentorship and growth opportunities to technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to staff, helping them achieve career growth and operational success.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in body shop management, with a strong focus on big rig or heavy-duty truck repairs.
- Proven track record of managing a team of technicians and optimizing operations in a high-volume body shop environment.
- Experience in managing customer relationships and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team to achieve operational goals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers, technicians, and management.
- Solid understanding of body shop processes, repair techniques, and tools, particularly for big rigs and heavy-duty vehicles.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, capable of managing multiple jobs and priorities simultaneously.
- Financial acumen, with experience in managing shop revenue, budgets, and cost controls.
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree in body repair management or related field is a plus.
- Certification or training in automotive repair or body shop management is desirable.
Work Environment:
- This position requires time spent both in the office (admin tasks, customer service, and reporting) and in the shop (overseeing operations and assisting with technicians).
- Ability to work in a noisy, fast-paced environment, with exposure to various mechanical equipment and tools.
