What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communication coordinator position at Big Ten Conference?
The Big Ten Conference is seeking candidates for the Bob Hammel Coordinator, Communications. This position assists with communications and media relations efforts across the organization and serves as the primary or secondary media and university contact for assigned sports, including Cross Country and Track & Field.
The Coordinator assists with media operations at designated Conference events, including media days, championships, and tournaments to enhance the local and national profile of the Big Ten Conference and its member institutions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Serve as the primary communications contact for Big Ten Cross Country, Track & Field, and other assigned sport(s)
- Assist with media operations at designated Conference events, including championships, tournaments, media days, and other events as necessary
- Lead the weekly, monthly, and yearly awards process for all assigned sports, in collaboration with Big Ten sports administration and campus staff
- Build and strengthen relationships with media to generate and facilitate coverage for assigned sports and championships
- Collaborate with social media and Big Ten Network staff to facilitate timely, accurate exposure for assigned sports and championships
- Create, refine and otherwise improve and maintain historical records and statistics for assigned sports and championships
- Collect and distribute information to promote student-athletes and coaches for national awards, and teams for postseason inclusion
- Manage the process and publicity of Academic All-Big Ten awards, and other non-athletic honors
- Produce press releases, media advisories and content for
- Foster a culture of inclusion to support a diverse environment
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field
- 1 years of communications, public relations and / or media operations in a college athletics setting
- Journalistic writing skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and relevant communications-related software
- Demonstrated knowledge and passion for intercollegiate athletics
- Ability to maintain punctual attendance and timely correspondence
- Commitment to travel, work evenings, weekends, and non-traditional hours
