Position Overview :
The Director of Development is responsible for leading and executing the theatres fundraising efforts in collaboration with the Executive Director. This role focuses on securing funding through individual giving, corporate sponsorships, grants, and special events to support the Bijou Theatres mission and programs. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, results-driven, and passionate about the arts, with a strong ability to cultivate relationships and drive revenue growth.
Responsibilities :
Fundraising & Revenue Development :
Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan to increase revenue and achieve the theatres financial goals.
Oversee annual fundraising campaigns, major gifts, and planned giving initiatives.
Lead the development and execution of the annual Jubilee fundraiser, working closely with the Jubilee Committee.
Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, and community partners.
Donor & Sponsor Relations :
Create and maintain personalized communication strategies to engage donors and sponsors.
Develop donor stewardship materials, including thank-you letters, newsletters, and impact reports.
Ensure that corporate sponsorship benefits are fulfilled and effectively recognized.
Grants & Foundation Support :
Research and identify grant opportunities that align with the Bijous mission and programs.
Write and submit compelling grant proposals and manage reporting requirements.
Maintain knowledge of local and national philanthropic trends and best practices in nonprofit fundraising.
Events & Community Engagement :
Work with the marketing team to develop fundraising event strategies and promotional materials.
Represent the Bijou Theatre at community events and networking opportunities to increase visibility and engagement.
Foster relationships with community organizations to strengthen partnerships and support fundraising initiatives.
Capital Campaign & Special Projects :
Support the planning and execution of the Capital Campaign, working alongside the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Campaign Committee.
Collaborate with the marketing team to effectively communicate campaign initiatives to the community.
Provide reports and recommendations to the Executive Director and board on fundraising progress and strategy adjustments as needed.
Qualifications :
Bachelors degree in a relevant field (nonprofit management, business administration, marketing, or related discipline).
Minimum of 4 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, and development.
Proven track record of securing major gifts, corporate sponsorships, and grants.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling donor messaging.
Proficient with WordPress, Newsletter platforms, CRMs, and online auction platforms.
Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and initiatives simultaneously.
Knowledge of nonprofit financial reporting and fundraising compliance requirements. Familiarity with the Knoxville arts and cultural sector is preferred.
