Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Estimating Manager to lead and manage our Estimating Department at Bilfinger Inc., a reputable general contractor specializing in industrial construction projects. The Estimating Manager will oversee a team of estimators and be responsible for managing all aspects of the bidding process, from initial proposal development through to final bid submission. This individual will play a key role in ensuring that bids are accurate, competitive, and submitted in a timely manner to support project acquisition efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership and Management:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of estimators, providing guidance and fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Assign and prioritize estimating tasks and ensure work is completed according to project deadlines.
- Develop and implement training programs to improve the team's capabilities, knowledge, and technical skills.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback to team members.
- Estimating and Bidding Process Management:
- Oversee all estimating activities, ensuring that bids are accurate, comprehensive, and aligned with company standards.
- Manage the preparation and submission of proposals, ensuring compliance with client specifications and requirements.
- Review and analyze project scope, drawings, and specifications to develop accurate cost estimates.
- Collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to obtain accurate pricing information and ensure competitive bids.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to facilitate the timely gathering of bids and pricing information.
- Proposal Development:
- Lead the development of proposal packages, ensuring that they clearly outline project scope, costs, and other critical details.
- Ensure that all estimates are aligned with company goals and project budgets.
- Perform thorough risk assessments for each bid and provide recommendations for mitigating potential risks during project execution.
- Process Improvement:
- Continuously assess and improve estimating processes, workflows, and tools to increase efficiency and accuracy in bid submissions.
- Implement best practices and industry standards in the estimating process.
- Stay updated with industry trends, construction methods, and materials to improve the estimating accuracy and overall competitiveness of bids.
- Client and Stakeholder Interaction:
- Interface with clients, engineers, architects, and internal stakeholders as necessary to ensure the accuracy and alignment of project estimates.
- Assist in responding to client inquiries, providing clarifications, and addressing any concerns during the proposal process.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all bids, estimates, and project-related documentation.
- Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on estimating activities, project status, and departmental performance.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in construction estimating, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Experience in industrial construction estimating is highly preferred (e.g., chemical plants, refineries, terminals, pipeline pumps and compressors and other process-related projects).
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
- Extensive experience with MS Excel and other estimating software tools.
- Deep understanding of construction cost estimation, methods, and techniques.
- Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with clients, vendors, and internal teams effectively.
