What are the responsibilities and job description for the Floral Production Design Assistant position at Billy Heroman's Flowerland?
Purpose of the Position:
Under the supervision of the Floral Design Manager, while assisting the Floral Designers, Floral Production Assistants help produce creative and appealing arrangements in a timely manner while maintaining an acceptable profit margin.
Essential Functions/Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for preparing the design room and ensuring the room is prepared and ready to begin production.
- Check all designer stations to ensure the appropriate supplies are readily available to the designers.
- Pull carts from the coolers and place them in the middle of the room to begin the day’s preparations.
- Ensure buckets on the carts have adequate water supply levels.
- Refill Greenery on the carts as needed for each day’s production.
- If any buckets from the previous night contain flowers, filter through for quality and place them in the correct buckets.
- Designers will frequently ask Production Assistants for help. A large majority of the Production Assistant's role is to assist the Floral Designers with what it takes to produce the best quality product for our customers.
- Responsible for pulling tickets to be designed and reviewing the tickets to ensure the information included all that is required to produce that order.
- Pull the required type and number of stems, the vessel to hold the arrangement, and any other requirements according to the floral recipes.
- Throughout the day, Production Assistants are responsible for remaining present in the room, maintaining cleanliness in all Design work areas, checking for new tickets, pulling the recipes for each, and placing flowers in the correct buckets for storage.
- At the end of each day, the Production Assistants will pull flowers, containers, and other items required for the next day’s early arrangement time requirements.
- Become knowledgeable about stem identification, floral arrangements, floral quality, and whether the product meets Billy Heroman’s standards.
- Collaborate with designers to learn plant design, vase greening, and container preparation.
- Familiarize yourself with flower/plant names and prices, container types, locations, uses, and stock levels.

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1-year related experience preferred
- Knowledge of many different varieties of fresh flowers and plants preferred.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:
This job operates in an environment with varying climates. The individual performing this job must be able to perform his/her job duties while exposed to varying temperatures, including working in a storage cooler (approx. 35 degrees).
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are typical of those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. This position is very active and requires prolonged standing and walking, with the ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This position is full-time and requires the ability to work flexible hours, even on last-minute notice, including evenings and weekends.
