Title: Purchasing Manager
Reports To: President & CEO
Location: Greenwood, SC
Purpose:
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all procurement activities within the company. This role ensures that the purchasing department operates efficiently, acquiring high-quality goods and services at the best possible prices while meeting operational and production requirements. The Purchasing Manager is also tasked with building and maintaining strong relationships with vendors, monitoring inventory levels, and ensuring timely delivery of materials.
- Efficient procurement processes that contribute to the smooth operation of production and business functions.
- Effective cost control and budget management, ensuring the company receives competitive pricing and avoids stockouts or excess inventory.
- Strong vendor relationships that support quality assurance, timely deliveries, and cost-effective purchasing decisions.
- Accurate and timely reporting on purchasing activities to ensure compliance with company policies and procurement standards.
- Lead the purchasing team in sourcing and procuring materials, goods, and services required for the company’s operations.
- Manage the preparation, negotiation, and approval of purchase orders, ensuring they align with specifications, timelines, and budgetary constraints.
- Oversee and maintain vendor relationships, negotiating terms, pricing, and contracts to secure favorable agreements.
- Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with production, operations, and warehouse teams to ensure timely procurement and avoid stockouts or overstocking.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve purchasing processes, optimize cost savings, and enhance supply chain efficiency.
- Ensure that all purchased items meet quality standards and are delivered on time, in proper condition, and within budget.
- Track, manage, and resolve any discrepancies in invoices, shipments, or product quality with vendors.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive reports on purchasing activities, supplier performance, inventory, and cost analyses.
- Stay informed of industry trends, new products, and suppliers to continuously improve purchasing strategies and leverage opportunities.
- Lead and train the purchasing team, ensuring all members adhere to company policies, procurement best practices, and compliance regulations.
- Collaborate with other departments to align purchasing efforts with overall company goals and operational needs.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to guide and motivate a purchasing team.
- Extensive knowledge of procurement processes, supplier management, contract negotiation, and cost control.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and purchasing software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar).
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage relationships with both internal teams and external suppliers.
- Analytical and detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills to manage purchasing-related challenges.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- In-depth understanding of inventory management, supply chain management, and procurement best practices.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Physical stamina to handle tasks that may involve standing, walking, or lifting materials as necessary.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (preferred).
