Job Title: Purchasing Manager
Reports to: Vice President of Pricing and Inventory Control
FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Summary:
The Purchasing Manager’s responsibilities include developing purchasing strategies, maintaining positive relationships with suppliers, coordinating with internal teams regarding their supply needs, and overseeing the purchasing team’s daily activities.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversee Purchasing Clerk’s daily activities, performance, and development.
- Responsible for approving time entry for clerk.
- Responsible for providing backup in the purchasing and inventory control area for Vice President of Purchasing and Inventory Control.
- Responsible for the daily workflow and productivity of the department.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for developing and implementing purchasing strategies to reduce purchase price, overall cost, and shipping cost.
- Responsible for managing daily purchasing activities.
- Manages supplier relations and negotiations, pricing, and delivery timelines.
- Responsible for ensuring inventory database is accurate and all purchasing records are correct.
- Responsible for coordinating inventory control to determine and manage inventory needs and repetitive order requirements.
- Responsible for ensuring all procured items meet quality standards and specifications.
- Responsible for preparing and managing cost estimates and budgets.
- Participates in the improvement of the purchasing processes and system data integrity.
- Collaborates with other departments and leadership to identify and develop needs and requirements for equipment, materials, products, and acceptable substitutions.
- Assess current material availability; reasonably predict future availability based on the market, delivery systems, and other variables.
- Responsible for preparing and processing purchase orders and requisitions for materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Evaluates and approves conditions for issuing and awarding bids.
- Responsible for resolving grievances with vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
- Act as the Company’s representative in negotiations with suppliers.
- Responsible for participation in the coordination of the removal and/or disposal of surplus materials.
- Responsible for buying group (AD) participation requirements for Plumbing, Electrical, and Decorative.

Proven Leader
Proven negotiation ability.
Evidence of knowledge or inventory and supply chain management.
Previous supervisory and management experience.
Ability to negotiate in a tough market and costly environment.
Strong critical thinking with an ability to make decisions independently.
Ability to manage multiple items at one time in a busy industry.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Education and Experience:
Experience in the plumbing and/or electrical industry a plus
Experience with Eclipse ERP Software
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Experience in negotiation tactics
Experience in conflict resolution and ability to resolve issues in a professional manner.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15lbs.
Must be able to utilize a standard office set up with minimal or no accommodation.
Must be able to speak clearly.
