Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support and assistance to individuals with disabilities, ensuring their safety, well-being, and overall quality of life. You will work closely with clients in various settings, including group homes and memory care facilities, to promote independence and enhance their daily living skills.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to individuals with autism and other disabilities.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client's needs and preferences.
- Ensure a safe environment by monitoring client behavior and addressing any safety concerns promptly.
- Support clients in participating in community activities and social events to promote engagement.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client progress and any incidents as per HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including nurses, to coordinate care for clients.
- Providing, recording and maintaining of appropriate records, daily notes, medication dispensing and special incident reporting.
- Perform heavy lifting as required when assisting clients with mobility or transfers.
Requirements
- Previous experience in home care or group home settings is preferred.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining client confidentiality.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities, particularly those on the autism spectrum or requiring memory care support.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary for client assistance.
- Compassionate demeanor with a genuine desire to help others improve their quality of life.
- Certification in caregiving or related fields is a plus but not mandatory.
- Ability to demonstration accurate medication dispensing and managing healthcare needs of clients.
- Able to document behaviors, specific events and cause for concerns with health and behavioral needs and challenges.
