POSITION SUMMARY: The Security Coordinator is the zoo’s frontline support for safety and security of guests and staff. The Security Coordinator is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment through completing and enforcing safety policies, procedures, and best practices. The Security Coordinator supports delivering a great guest experience, being highly visible by engaging guests and staff.

The Security Coordinator supports delivering a great guest experience, being highly visible by engaging guests and staff.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and written.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Ability to walk long distances throughout the day.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy items including entrance gates, boxes, and ADA ramps.
- Basic computer skills using Outlook.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with zoo opening and closing procedures, including clearing park of guests and transportation of supplies.
- Proactively removes slip and trip hazards and keeps guests and staff well informed of potentially hazardous conditions.
- Assist in directing traffic and guiding buses in the parking lot during key events including school field trips.
- Assist conducting crowd control measures during heavy attendance and or in the event of an emergency.
- Inspects first-aid, AEDs, and fire extinguishers to ensure availability and in working order.
- Maintains working knowledge of the zoo’s emergency procedures and assist management in emergency situations.
- Participates with coordinating and documenting emergency preparedness drills.
- Assists with training employees on safety procedures including fire extinguishers.
- Proactively responds to incident and accidents and completes reporting forms as needed.
- Monitoring facilities for general safety hazards and make recommendations for corrective action.
- Communicates regularly with management and staff.
- Attends and participates in safety meetings.
- Proactively seeks and assists guests with wayfinding, transportation, and amenity needs.
- Remove trash and debris as needed, assisting with keeping the zoo clean and neat.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with special event set-ups and takedowns.
- Working knowledge of zoo’s security camera system, reviewing and retrieving video as needed.
- Acts as liaison with emergency personnel in emergency situations.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
- Up to 90% of the time working outside on the zoo grounds.
- Up to 10% of the time working in an office using a computer.
- Outside in various weather conditions including inclement weather.
