Job Summary: Bingham & Taylor is seeking a skilled EHS Technician to assist the Environmental Compliance Specialist at our Culpeper plant primarily, with occasional local travel to our Fredericksburg plants. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and local authorities. The EHS Technician will be responsible for conducting inspections, organizing waste management processes, sampling, and coordinating employee training to maintain environmental standards. This role will play a critical part in maintaining a safe and compliant work environment while supporting continuous improvements to environmental practices. Fluency in English is required for this position, as effective communication is essential for successful job performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct weekly waste inspections and maintain waste management inventory in accordance with RCRA requirements, addressing corrective actions as needed.
- Perform monthly SWPPP and SPCC inspections, ensuring required follow-ups are completed to maintain compliance.
- Collect and organize environmental data and documentation related to air permits, stormwater, and waste tracking.
- Sample and characterize waste, ensuring proper storage and disposal procedures are followed in line with RCRA requirements.
- Coordinate waste disposal with vendors and manage required shipping documentation, such as manifests and BOLs.
- Organize and arrange environmental training sessions (RCRA, HAZWOPER, etc.) and maintain certification records.
- Assist in the preparation of environmental reports, ensuring timely and accurate submission of required documents and permits.
- Support internal audits by providing necessary data and documentation for compliance checks.
- Conduct safety inspections on equipment, such as forklifts, and address any identified environmental or safety policy violations.
- Assist with industrial hygiene monitoring and ensure compliance with safety standards across departments.
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety or related fields.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with waste characterization, stormwater sampling, and regulatory agencies (VDEQ, EPA) is preferred.
- Understanding of environmental regulations, including VDEQ, EPA, and local standards.
- Familiarity with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) for waste management and characterization.
- Awareness of environmental sampling techniques, data analysis, and documentation practices.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Excel and office tools for data entry and compliance record management.
- Attention to detail in monitoring, sampling, and documenting environmental data.
