The new School of the Arts at Binghamton University seeks someone dynamic and highly organized to serve as the Assistant for the Founding Director of the School of the Arts. The new School of the Arts is an exciting initiative within Harpur College, and brings together the departments of Art and Design, Art History, Cinema, Music and Theatre.
The Assistant to the Director position provides general support to the School of the Arts in all aspects of its development, including new curricular initiatives, hiring, and outreach to the university and community. These duties include:
- Assisting in the planning and preparation of the School of the Arts budget request
- Finance and budget maintenance
- Performing routine monthly reconciliation and analysis for internal and external purposes
- Gathering research and statistical data as requested
- Assisting in the preparation and submission of grant applications
- Coordination of new School of the Arts hires
- File maintenance
- Providing liaison between the Director and the professional staff of the University with the respect to administrative matters
- Coordinating with various offices and departments on campus, as well as the community
- Calendar management
This position will also support the general administrative processing needs of the Translation Research and Instruction Program (TRIP), including:
- Coordinating paperwork for visiting scholars
- Processing HR paperwork
- Course building/scheduling /coordinating with other departments
- Budget monitoring
- Record keeping
- Event organization support
- Website management/updates
- Graduate Student examination scheduling
- File management (collecting thesis/dissertation, syllabi, paperwork for affiliated faculty members etc.)
- Office space management (the TA office)
- Reimbursement processing
Candidates must have excellent organizational skills, communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and administrative skills. Must have financial tracking experience including Excel, and the ability to learn new software and procedures particular to New York State. Multi-tasking, attention to detail, and a demonstrated ability to work well with a broad constituency required. This position is vital to the ongoing day-to-day operation of the new School of the Arts, interfacing with students, faculty, staff, administration, and the broader community.
Job Requirements:

- Bachelor's Degree
- 2 years of administrative experience
- Effective interpersonal and organizations skills
- Excellent computer skills and a willingness to become adept in new university software packages and procedures
- Strong organization and time management skills including the ability to prioritize workload
- Proficient with Google Office Suite
- Expertise in use of spreadsheets and databases
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- The ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality regarding all matters relating to the school, the college, and the university
- Should be committed to a culture of diversity, equity, respect and inclusion; demonstrated ability to build working relationships with people having a wide variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences
Preferred:
- BA/BFA in a related field
- Experience with budget management
