The Coordinator for Communication Success and Integrated Learning is a pivotal role dedicated to enhancing student development in public speaking, oral communication, and integrated academic initiatives at Binghamton University. This position assists in the Speaking Center's operations, fosters cross-campus collaboration, and designs impactful communication programming that supports student success.
Key Responsibilities
- Speaking Center Operations:
- Manage the daily operations of the Speaking Center, providing students with access to peer-to-peer support for public speaking, oral presentations, and communication-related projects.
- Train, mentor, and supervise a team of peer consultants to deliver effective, student-centered consultations.
- Maintain and enhance resources, tools, and digital platforms to support communication development.
- Consultation Services:
- Facilitate individual and group consultations to address planning, delivery, and refinement of presentations and oral communication skills.
- Provide feedback on verbal and non-verbal communication, organization, visual aids, and strategies to manage public speaking anxiety.
- Coordinate digital recording and feedback systems, such as Panopto, to enhance student learning and skill development.
- Program Development and Integration:
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate communication skill-building into academic and co-curricular programs.
- Develop workshops, presentations, and resources to support communication excellence across campus.
- Build partnerships with other campus departments to promote communication success in leadership, academic, and extracurricular contexts.
- Student Engagement and Success:
- Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for students of all communication skill levels, from novice to advanced.
- Design programs and services tailored to diverse student needs, including strategies for virtual presentations and group collaborations.
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of Speaking Center services to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with institutional goals.
- Administrative Duties:
- Manage appointment scheduling, communication, and data collection to track usage and impact of services.
- Prepare reports, assessments, and recommendations to support the center's mission and strategic objectives.
- Serve as a liaison with campus partners and external stakeholders to promote and enhance Speaking Center services.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to fostering student growth and success.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in communication, education, or a related field
- Experience in public speaking, teaching, or consulting
- Experience training and/or mentoring others
- Experience with digital tools for presentation development and virtual communication (e.g., Panopto, Zoom, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree (or higher) in communication, higher education, or related field
- Experience coordinating or delivering academic programming or student success initiatives
- Experience building collaborative relationships with diverse campus partners
- Knowledge of strategies to support students experiencing public speaking anxiety or communication apprehension
