The Role
The Estimator, Mechanical Service HVAC is responsible for evaluating documents to successfully bid Service HVAC proposals.
Accountabilities:
Estimating Process
- Develop and provide complete, accurate and timely detailed estimates representing HVAC system, costs, associated general conditions, required overhead and profit.
- Maintain all files of working bid documents, notes and assumptions of project estimates and coordinate with the project team to ensure a smooth transition.
Proposals
- Review and evaluate written repair and replacement orders from HVAC technicians to prepare proposals.
- Develop and provide complete, accurate and timely detailed proposals representing HVAC systems.
- Work closely with field technicians and Service Manager to develop proposals.
Plan/Spec Compliance
- Identify any unique requirements of any proposals and incorporate the related costs into those project estimates.
Vendor/Sub Quotes
- Work with and obtain pricing from various vendors and subcontractors through completion of bids.
Qualifications
Skills
- A solid understanding and broad knowledge of HVAC systems for commercial and institutional service work, including hospitals, schools, R&D facilities and multi-story buildings.
- Strong computer and technology skills.
- Ability to prioritize, set goals and manage multiple tasks under time constraints and meet strict deadlines.
- Demonstrate strong math aptitude, organization, verbal, written and analytical skills.
- Knowledge Mechanical theory and code to identify issues with the designs or conflicts with other trades.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma required. Bachelor's degree in mechanical Engineering or Technical school education preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of Commercial HVAC system estimating experience required.
- Must be comfortable working with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors and vendors.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements
- Physical activity not limited to: ability to sit for long periods of time, walk, stand, bend, stoop, use hands and fingers & lifting <50 pounds.
