This is an entry level Biomed position requiring Technologist II experience at a minimum. This position will be trained by external vendors and the more Senior BioMed technicians how to maintain and repair laboratory equipment. The candidate will maintain effective communication with internal and external customers.

It is essential that the incumbent have a valid driver's license and be at least 18 years old with a good driving record to meet organization driving standards.

Responsibilities

Essential Tasks

Competently perform all assigned departmental duties. May include specialized support in the Biomed area that includes:

  • Attend advanced vendor training to assist in daily operations.
  • Evaluate reports in an accurate and timely manner; recognize and resolve unusual problems.
  • Operate equipment utilizing established protocols and within quality control limits.
  • Maintain strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Prepare and maintain correspondence, reports, and records as needed.
  • Perform computer data entry.

Work under close supervision of management and will assist other Biomed Technicians in performing BioMedical departmental duties.

Work closely with the laboratory staff.

Performs skilled work on preventive maintenance, repair, safety testing, and recording functional test data. Perform computer data entry.

Maintain strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Learn how to troubleshoot laboratory equipment.

Assure timely troubleshooting and resolution associated with equipment repair. Assist in routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Assist in correspondence, reports, and records as needed. Adherence to all safety, regulatory, and quality requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work relative to the field of assignment.

Licenses and/or Certifications

Valid United States Driver’s License

Prefer Certified Medical Laboratory Technician/Scientist, (MLT/MLS), (ASCP)

Experience

Requires three years or more of laboratory experience (testing samples).

Requires one or more years of related experience in FDA regulated setting for drug, device, or biologic product development/manufacturing.

Requires one year experience as a Biomedical Engineering Tech/technician (BMET). Requires parts inventory management experience.

Prefer experience with environmental monitoring/control equipment.

Knowledge

Must obtain a working knowledge of regulatory/quality requirements and perform within all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies.

Must acquire a working knowledge of quality, basic troubleshooting, and laboratory systems.

Skills

Must have strong customer service skills.

Must have the capability to be a self ‐ motivated and self ‐ managed individual.

Must have experience using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, Visio, PowerPoint and Excel. Must be able to print and write legibly.

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Must be capable of operating motor vehicles in all types of weather conditions. Must maintain competency in specialty skills.

Must become familiar with equipment management system (Up ‐ Keep)

Must be able to troubleshoot basic equipment successfully within the first year of employment

Must be a self ‐ starter and self ‐ directed worker. Must be able to keep information confidential.

Must be able to perform multiple requests simultaneously while maintaining quality and accuracy. Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Must be able to work with interruptions, meet deadlines, and perform accurate work and/or reports. Must be neat in appearance and well groomed.

Must be professional, detail oriented, self ‐ motivated, innovative, creative, assertive, organized, communicative, and can work independently.

Must perform well in repetitive work situations.

Working Environment

Works in a well ‐ lighted air conditioned and heated laboratory/department. May require work with laboratory and robotic instrumentation.

May be exposed to electrical, mechanical and chemical hazards and other conditions common to a laboratory environment.

May be exposed to blood borne pathogens and other conditions common to a clinical laboratory environment.

May have bodily exposure to refrigerator/freezer temperature, especially hands and face. Will work extended hours during peak periods.

May be required to work any time of the day, evening or night during the week or weekend, to include being on ‐ call. Ability to use personal motor vehicle for company business required.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to travel to remote sites 10 ‐ 25% of time at work. Must be able to drive on behalf of the organization.

Will sit, stand, walk, and bend during working hours.

Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye ‐ hand coordination.

Required to carry up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.

Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing corrected to a normal range.
