Job Description:
- Receive, unpack, count, and inspect materials to ensure accurate quantity and quality; mark material with appropriate stock numbers and issue material and equipment to authorized personnel.
- Distribute non-stock items received at the Warehouse.
- Make periodic inventory counts on store items to ensure proper identification and re-supply needs; prepare reorder requests. Move and rotate stock to insure usage of old material.
- Maintain warehouse in a clean and orderly manner; sweep, maintain, clean, and ensure the safety and security of warehouse buildings and grounds.
- Process over the counter requests for inventory items; enter information into a computer and obtain pre-printed stores issue forms prior to releasing material.
- Process faxed or e-mailed orders; enter information into the computer and deliver to appropriate destinations.
- Receive items from departments and enter into the UPS delivery system; label items and ship via UPS.
- Gather items classified as surplus; verify completion of surplus forms; tag items and place in appropriate locations.
- Pick up, inspect, and sign for inventory at local vendors.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
- Observe and maintain a safe working environment in compliance with established safety programs and procedures.
- Mobility: frequent performance of heavy manual labor; frequent standing for long period of time; frequent bending, squatting and climbing.
- Lifting: frequent lifting up to 75 pounds; occasional lifting up to 100 pounds.
- Vision: constant use of overall vision. Dexterity: frequent grasping, holding, and reaching.
- Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and talking in person; may be required to hear in noisy conditions.
- Emotional/ Psychological: frequent coworker contact; occasional working alone.
- Environmental: frequent exposure to noise; frequent exposure to chemicals, fumes, and other environmental substances.
- WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in both an indoor and outdoor environment on a year-round basis, subject to varying weather conditions, street or vehicle noise and a non-climate-controlled warehouse environment.
- Work may require some exposure to loud equipment and machinery.
- Positions may require some overtime and weekend work and travel is rare.
Skills Required:
- Knowledge of: General warehousing procedures, including the receiving of materials.
- Methods of maintaining and taking inventories.
- Basic mathematics.
- Safety hazards and appropriate precautions applicable to work assignments.
- Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Ability to: Perform a wide range of storekeeping and warehousing activities.
- Interpret, explain, and apply City and department policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Explain operations to the public and staff.
- Resolve office issues for the public and staff.
- Maintain accurate and current records of transactions.
- Operate a forklift and small truck. Make accurate arithmetic computations.
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the Warehouse.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Experience Required:
- Experience and Training Guidelines: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
- Experience: Two years of routine storekeeping or warehouse maintenance experience.
- License or Certificate: Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.
- When assigned to Central Stores: Ability to obtain, or possession of, an appropriate forklift certification may be required.
Education Required:
- High School diploma or GED equivalency.
Work hours:
- 8:00 am to 1:00 pm
