What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Scientist –Protein Engineering and Bioassay Development position at BioLoomics?
Elevator Pitch :
Are you an expert at cell biology and mammalian cell culture and bioassays? Deep interest in directed evolution, mutagenesis and protein engineering? Have previous deep experience building high throughput assays to drive exploration of biochemical space in an industry setting? This job is for you!
Principal Scientist – Protein Engineering and Bioassay Development
BioLoomic’s Mission :
BioLoomics is developing safer, more effective cancer medicines using Super-ADCs that increase binding & payload delivery to tumors. Traditional ADCs only deliver less than 1% of injected dose to tumors. The remainder of the therapy delivers toxic payload to healthy tissues, severely limiting the therapeutic index. Our Super-ADCs improve the tumor targeting efficiency of ADCs and have the promise to change the landscape of oncology in the next 5-10 years.
Super-ADCs leverage peptide-antibody fusions that bind, cluster and bend membranes to increase ADC delivery to the surface and lysosome. As we push forward our lead molecules through preclinical animal studies, we aim to scale our design-build-test-learn platform for discovery and development of these peptides using a combination of multi-well and single-cell based high throughput screening methods. Accordingly, we are seeking a highly qualified principal scientist to oversee, drive, and scale the ‘test’ in our design-build-test-learn process to yield valuable variants of Super-ADCs.
The Contribution You Will Make :
BioLoomics is seeking an experienced Principal Scientist, centered on high-throughput screening. You will be responsible for 80% benchwork, 20% leadership & strategy of the cell biology team. This position has 1 direct report in the short term with team expansion to an additional 2-4 scientists as the program develops. You will report directly to the CSO, Dr. Kurt Gish, an ADC veteran of 20 years. This role is 100% on-site, full-time with a semi-flexible work schedule, and may require light weekend work.
The Impact of Your Work :
Successful execution by you and your team will lead to the discovery of novel ADCs that will progress to the clinic and have the potential to become life-saving medicines for people in need. You will also play a critical role in developing other scientists and innovative technologies that fuel BioLoomics’s mission.
Your Core Responsibilities :
- Driving strategy and process development for our high throughput Super-ADC screening platform using FACS and / or ELISA to assess membrane binding and other cell-based mechanistic features.
- Designing and executing with the team various mechanistic studies on our Super-ADCs using high resolution microscopy, cell line development, and other techniques.
- Prototyping improvements for our single-cell testing screening platform.
- Author and / or contribute to abstracts / manuscripts, patents, study reports, and regulatory submissions.
- Keeping up to date on the relevant techniques and literature related to our process and mission.
