Our recent soft launch has successfully connected us with over 200 venture studios and firms, and we are now expanding our leadership team to drive the company forward as we approach our hard launch in July/August 2025.


Position Overview: We are seeking a visionary Chief Operating Officer (COO) with a strong background in engineering and/or medical sciences to join our team. The COO will be primarily responsible for managing internal operations and organizing the moving parts within the organization, particularly by working closely with student teams. You will supply your expertise to guide early-stage prototyping and help structure startups around a common operational framework.


This is a full-time, on-site position located in Oxford, MS. It offers a competitive salary, particularly for the startup environment, and an extremely generous equity package in the form of common stock.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day internal operations, ensuring BMTT’s initiatives are executed efficiently and aligned with our strategic goals.
  • Take a hands-on role in early-stage prototyping and technical development for each new startup, collaborating with and mentoring student engineers.
  • Collaborate closely with the CEO, who focuses on external growth and partnerships, while you concentrate on internal operations and technical execution.
  • Organize and coordinate the efforts of student teams, providing technical guidance and ensuring each startup operates within a structured, scalable framework.
  • Develop and optimize internal processes to support the ideation, validation, and commercialization phases of our venture studio model.
  • Lead cross-functional teams, ensuring seamless collaboration between clinical need identification, market analysis, customer discovery, and startup scaling.
  • Assist with technical problem-solving, design considerations, and prototype development across multiple projects.
  • Foster an environment of innovation, learning, and excellence among the student teams and staff.
  • Support financial management efforts by monitoring key performance indicators and contributing to sustainable growth strategies.



Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Sciences, or a related technical field (please still apply if you believe you have a compelling background).
  • Proven experience in a leadership role with a strong emphasis on engineering and/or medical experience.
  • Hands-on experience in early-stage prototyping, product development, and technical project management.
  • Some background in business or entrepreneurship, with an understanding of startup operations and development.
  • Ability to manage complex workflows and multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills, with a passion for mentoring and fostering interdisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property, regulatory requirements, and the biomedical innovation landscape is a plus.
  • Experience working with students or in an academic environment is a plus.
