Summary
Onsite role, reporting to the VP of Infrastructure and Operations, the IT Networks Director will play a pivotal role in the management and optimization of our company's network infrastructure. This position demands a leader with a deep understanding of network architecture, security, and emerging technologies. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the reliable, scalable, and secure operations of our entire network ecosystem.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop and lead the execution of a strategic roadmap for the company's IT network infrastructure in line with the vision of the organization. This includes but not limited to the following technologies: Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Load Balancers, Voice Systems, Wireless, VPN, Web Filters and other components including the data centers.
- Lead and mentor a team of network engineers, both FTEs and Consultants. This includes setting clear performance expectations and providing regular feedback while promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Engage and coordinate with external vendors and third-party support personnel in the contractual negotiation, evaluation, design, and delivery of network related services and products.
- Develop and update corporate standard operating procedures (SOPs) where applicable to provide consistent support for internal clients and external partners with network infrastructure related needs and requests.
- Oversee the delivery, management and maintenance of the company's network infrastructure projects and deliverables.
- Assign resources to resolve networking infrastructure related issues as reported by NOC/Service Desk, end users or automated alerting and ticketing systems.
- In coordination with the NOC, monitor and report on network performance metrics such as overall availability, utilization, throughput, and latency to upper management.
- Proactively review the networking technology stack and provide recommendations for improvements; help to establish or update relevant network policies and procedures.
- Help with specifying networking requirements and design solutions as part of greater service deliverable projects.
- Be able to forecast and develop multi-year budget plans based on projected needs and technology lifecycle management and be able to track and report against those budgets.
- Expected to be available for on-call scheduling and off-hours escalated troubleshooting.
- Any other related work as assigned by your management team.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering or similar Information Technology related field. Advanced Degree would be a plus and is preferred.
- 5 years of hands-on experience as a technical engineer in a medium to large size enterprise.
- 8 years of IT management experience in a medium to large size enterprise.
- Excellent ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Working familiarity with the following technology concepts: Networking Architecture, Networking Protocols, Networking Security, Voice Services, Cloud Operations.
- Working knowledge of the following networking concepts: OSI Model, TCP/IP Model, Routing Protocols (BGP, OSPF), Routed Protocols and associated ports, Routing Decision metrics, IP addressing (Super-netting and Sub-netting), SNMP Polling and Trapping, Spanning Tree, Data Link types and associated configurations, Network Wiring standards, Wireless standards, DHCP, IPSEC and SSL VPN Tunneling, Voice/Video networking protocols, Unicast/Multicast and Broadcast protocols and other general networking knowledge concepts.
- Knowledge of best practices around design, implementation and support of enterprise level networking infrastructure and solutions.
- Ability to effectively organize, prioritize and multitask assigned work.
