Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Chemist to support the development and refinement of compound formulations tailored to client specifications. This role involves inputting and managing formulas in internal systems, making necessary adjustments over time, and collaborating on development projects from concept through industrialization. Responsibilities also include raw material sourcing, testing, and supporting process improvements in production environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Plant Manager to design custom formulations based on technical and customer criteria.
- Input compound recipes into the ERP system, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
- Follow lab-scale and production-scale mixing procedures for batch development and trials.
- Partner with Purchasing to locate customer-specific raw materials and identify cost-saving alternatives.
- Gain hands-on experience with laboratory equipment and testing procedures by working closely with the R&D team.
- Generate and interpret test data, producing formal reports to inform development and quality control.
- Assist in resolving production-related challenges and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
- Evaluate and, if necessary, revise existing formulas to ensure manufacturing feasibility and consistency.
- Review safety data sheets (SDS) for compliance and alert health and safety personnel of potential concerns.
- Provide clients with relevant SDS documentation for developed compounds.
- Act as a subject matter resource for the broader product development and support teams.
- Promote a strong safety culture by adhering to all health and safety standards and modeling best practices.
- Join cross-functional teams and participate in special initiatives as needed.
- Proficiency in standard business software, including Excel and PowerPoint, is essential.
- Must be open to occasional travel to customer sites.
- Availability for weekend, evening, or after-hours meetings with clients or sales teams may be required.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Materials Science).
- At least three years of relevant industry experience.
- Prior experience in rubber or elastomer formulation is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Capable of working both independently and as part of a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.
