Overview:
Birch Bay Waterslides is seeking a motivated and experienced Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of our waterpark. This key leadership role ensures a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience for our guests while maintaining high standards of safety, staff performance, and operational efficiency.
The Operations Manager works closely with all departments, including aquatics, admissions, food service, and maintenance, to coordinate activities and ensure smooth park operations throughout the season.
Key Responsibilities: Fall-Spring (Part-Time)
- Participate in and complete provided Lifeguard Instruction Certification (if not already obtained)
- Participate in and complete provided supervisor training programs.
- Assist in recruiting, hiring and onboarding seasonal staff.
- Provide support in group sales, lead outreach program for the park, and developing of on site off season programs
- Assist with maintenance in preparing and opening the park.
- Help plan, organize and facilitate pre-season lifeguard training sessions.
- Work with management to prepare for the waterpark’s opening, ensuring all safety equipment and procedures are ready.
- Other duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities: Summer (Full-Time)
Operational Management
- Manage daily operations of the facility in cooperation with all departments.
- Implement operational procedures and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Monitor park conditions, including cleanliness, safety and guest satisfaction.
- Coordinate daily opening and closing procedures, ensuring proper staffing and preparation.
- Other duties as assigned
Team Training & Leadership
- Assist with recruiting, hiring and training seasonal staff in collaboration with management.
- Supervise and mentor department managers and team leads, ensuring accountability and performance.
- Conduct regular team meetings to align departments on goals, updates and operational priorities.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that motivates staff to perform at their best.
- Training and instruct staff on park procedures and processes
- Assist in setting policies and procedures with Park Manager
- Host and instruct weekly in service training for staff
- Audit ride operators weekly on safety and techniques to ensure proper safety procedures and communication is occurring.
Guest Experience
- Implement and enforce policies to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all guests.
- Handle escalated guest concerns and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
- Monitor guest feedback to identify opportunities for improvement in park operations.
- Oversee for all cleanliness of entire facility including pools, deck areas, parking lot, restrooms, concession stand, gift shop, admissions area, guest seating areas, etc.
Safety & Compliance
- Work with and assist the Aquatics Supervisor to ensure the lifeguard team adhere to all safety protocols.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety and water quality standards, conducting regular inspections and audits.
- Coordinate emergency response planning, training, acting as a key leader in crisis management.
Administrative Duties
- Assist in creating and managing budgets for labor, supplies and operational expenses.
- Monitor daily revenue and attendance reports, collaborating with admissions and retail teams.
- Oversee scheduling to optimize labor efficiencies while meeting operating needs.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
- Maintain all logs, files, reports, communications and electronic data relating to water quality inspections, lifeguarding, accidents, safety checks, employee warnings, maintenance and daily reports.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- Proven experience is operations management, preferably in the recreation, hospitality, waterpark industry.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate a large seasonal team.
- Excellent problem solving skills and decision making abilities in high pressure situations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays and extended hours during the summer season.
Education & Experience
- Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent
- College degree preferred
- Lifeguarding experience preferred
- Knowledge of waterpark operations, including lifeguard safety, maintenance and guest services, preferred.
Certificates and License Requirements
- CPR, First Aid, AED Certified
- Lifeguard Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Lifeguard Instructor Certification (or willingness to obtain, provided by Birch Bay Waterslides)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, or move around the park for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, reach, stretch and climb without any difficulty.
- Ability to lift and drag up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Expected hours: 25 – 40 per week

- 10 hour shift
- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
