POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Quality Assurance Dimensional Inspector inspects, or tests processed machined, fabricated, or assembled parts or products for deviations from specifications.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review layouts, blueprints, diagrams or work orders and interpret complex elements of a part drawing or sketch, including welding symbols to plan inspection techniques, procedures and selection of appropriate inspection tools.
- Inspect an assortment of metal and plastic items, first-run parts and sample work pieces using various inspection tools and common machine shop measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, dial indicators, gage blocks, bore gages, etc.
- Position and clamp work pieces or assemble them in a jigs or fixtures to be inspected against blueprint specifications.
- Evaluate problems and make initial recommendations for possible corrective action to supervise.
- Coordinate calibration of all test equipment and fixtures
- Clearly and effectively document actions by completing job traveller, timesheets, inspection documents, production and quality logs.
- Maintains quality inspection equipment by completing annual calibration of gages, preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions and troubleshooting malfunctions.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
WORKING CONDITIONS & SCHEDULE
- Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 6:00am to 4:30pm; may be times this role will be asked to work outside scheduled shift hours
- Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment where exposure to moving mechanical parts, sharp cutting tools, dust, fumes and airborne particles, temperature extremes and elevated noise level.
- Employees must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and or move more than 75 pounds
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to strand, stoop, kneel, climb, crouch, talk and hear.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protection and work boots.
QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES
- Minimum two years’ experience in a QC department as an inspector or demonstrated proficiency in related area
- Must be able to read drawings and blueprints
- Intermediate level of skill and knowledge of QC procedures and methodologies to ensure compliance to standards and specifications
- General knowledge of work methods, techniques, materials and tools used in machining, fabrication and welding of metal & plastic parts
- Intermediate knowledge of inspection techniques and have a working knowledge of tools used in inspecting manufactured parts (calipers, micrometers, height gages, dial indicators, gage blocks, bore gages, etc.).
- Intermediate knowledge/comprehension of shop math including algebra, trigonometry and geometry including calculations using fractions, percent’s, and/or ratios and an understanding basic decimal equivalents and fraction conversions
- Computer literacy
