JOB DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the transportation program in school district. The work involves dispatching of drivers and school bus for district and ensuring that all school district bus drivers follow established routes and prepared time schedules.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and update all student and school bus route information in the district transportation routing software
- Adjust bus runs and timing of routes as needed
- Assist in the assignment of buses and bus route schedules
- Oversee and manage district drivers’ motor vehicle reports to ensure insurance eligibility requirements are met
- Oversee and manage district GPS software
- Consult with school administrators to resolve student transportation issues
- Answer phone calls from parents and follow through on their concerns
- Responsible for reviewing and downloading bus video for all accidents and student behavior incidents
- Responsible for the routine maintenance and updating of all maps, streets, geocodes and district boundaries for all schools
- Complete vehicle accident reports and ensure of proper documentation (including video)
- Assess and perform analysis on data and prepares data to facilitate effective transportation service
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Associates/Technical degree preferred
- Valid Alabama driver’s License with willingness to obtain a CDL, and Alabama school bus driver’s license. (Class “B” commercial driver’s license with “P” and “S” endorsements)
- Minimum two (2) years successful experience as dispatcher or general clerical experience
- Computer proficiency, experience with computerized mapping software preferred
- Ability to relate and communicate with people in an effective and courteous manner
- Knowledge of Birmingham/Jefferson County geography, names and locations of schools and streets preferred, and ability to relate this knowledge to routing of buses
- Must meet and maintain standards required by city vehicle insurance policy
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of service delivery to ensure customer satisfaction
- Ability to follow detailed procedures and ensure accuracy in documentation and data
- Analytic and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand and perform data analysis.
