Summary: The Activities Aide I will work as a member of the Activities Department with focus on activity programming for residents for the Nursing Home. The Aide will professionally represent the department and the organization to its residents, families, volunteers, and others.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small and large group situations to families, patients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Must have some knowledge, experience or expertise in recreational activities, music or crafts appropriate to an older population.
- Knowledge of the aging process and experience with older adults.
- Knowledge of or experience with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
- Must complete feeding training program and feed residents and/or pass trays at meal times.
- Current CPR certification or able to obtain certification within three months of employment.
- Must possess valid Virginia driver’s license and good driving record. Must be willing to drive residents in facility van or bus as needed.
Essential Functions:
- Conducts social, physical, educational and entertainment activities for residents as requested by the Activities Director to enhance the quality of life and maximize potential for residents by taking their life history into consideration as well as their specific abilities and deficits.
- Assists residents to and from activities, both within and outside the facility.
- Assists the Activities Director in maintaining the appropriate documentation required by state and federal regulations, including the activity portion of the MDS. Keeps attendance records, assessments and provides information to complete care plans.
- Assists the Activities Director in developing and implementing the interdisciplinary care plan and activity progress notes for each resident.
- Works with the Activities Director, Nurse Manager and Social Worker to develop care and programming strategies for SCU residents.
- Participates in staff committees as requested by the Activities Director.
- Documents daily resident participation as prescribed in activity policies and procedures.
- Monitors levels of equipment and supplies; reports supply and repair needs to Activities Director.
- Fulfills other responsibilities as requested by the Activities Director.
- Creates and maintains effective interpersonal working relationships and functions as a member of the team of Birmingham Green.
- Maintains confidentiality of all resident information to ensure resident rights are protected.
- Must be able to lift without restrictions.
- Other duties as assigned.
