Job Purpose
The IT Application Specialist will work closely with the Infrastructure Manager and the CIO to provide the advanced application technical support, maintenance, and optimization of the Museums applications, including troubleshooting complex IT application issues, implementing upgrades, supporting user access, and providing expert guidance to other IT staff while collaborating closely with business analysts and Museum leadership to identify and address application needs; essentially acting as a key technical leader in the application support domain. Performs other IT support duties, as assigned by the CIO and Infrastructure Manager, to accomplish the goals of the Museum.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, configure, support, and maintain application programs and client-server database management systems.
- Monitor, review, and recommend updates for aging applications, databases, and web systems, ensuring security and integration with new technologies.
- Collaborate with business analysts and managers to identify outdated systems and propose new, secure solutions.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting, problem-solving, and system log analysis to resolve complex application issues.
- Manage application updates, patches, and system upgrades, ensuring seamless transitions and optimal performance.
- Proactively monitor application performance, implement tuning strategies, and contribute to system architecture design.
- Lead application-related projects, mentor junior staff, and provide technical expertise on system enhancements.
- Maintain application security, monitor vulnerabilities, and ensure the integrity of data and systems.
- Work with the Infrastructure Manager on data storage, backup, and disaster recovery planning.
- Provide support for integrated application solutions, ensuring their success in the Museum's IT infrastructure.
- Perform additional IT support duties as needed to meet Museum goals.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems. Prefer Masters of Computer Science or MIS.
- Experience: 10 years in application technologies, database programming, and database management (preferably within Oracle environments).
- Database Management: 10 years experience in database management with SQL and PL/SQL programming skills in Oracle environments.
- Other Programming Languages: Knowledge of C, C , JAVA, HTML, XML, and web development tools.
- Application Development & Testing: Proven expertise in application software development & testing methodologies and working with cross-functional teams (business analysts, designers, QA engineers) for project success.
- Content Management & Tools Knowledge: Familiarity with FileNet, scanning, Crystal Reports, SAP development, and administration.
- Vendor & Project Management: Strong background in managing application development projects, including vendor coordination, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Security & Compliance: In-depth understanding of application security best practices and compliance regulations.
- Leadership & IT Management: At least 3 years in a leadership capacity with 10 years experience in IT application planning, analysis, design, implementation, and maintenance, including managing teams (e.g., help desk, information systems development, web development).
- System Development: Experience in ADLC/SDLC, from requirement gathering to deployment and maintenance.
- Familiarity with cloud and on-premise infrastructure.
- Experience in selecting and supporting applications for the organization is a plus.

- Adheres to Museum policies and supports management decisions professionally.
