This position is responsible for the care and maintenance of city trees.• Operates a bucket truck and other specialized equipment to prune and remove trees; operates a log loader, front end loader, chipper and dump truck.
• Removes dead, dying or hazardous trees.
• Cleans up storm-related damage.
• Removes stumps.
• Plants trees.
• Repairs irrigation lines.
• Assists with snow removal operations.
• Conducts daily vehicle and equipment inspections.
• Inspects firewood piles.
• Diagnoses and treats trees for pests.
• Performs related duties.• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized
training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school
education.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the
position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having
had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North
Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.• Knowledge of arboricultural and urban forestry practices and techniques.
• Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, and methods use in the planting, pruning, and maintenance of trees.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures.
• Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance principles.
• Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
• Skill in the operation of variety of tree maintenance tools and equipment.
• Skill in prioritizing and planning.
• Skill in interpersonal relations.
