Required Certifications
- Incident Command System (ICS) Level 300 (Intermediate)
- HAZWOPER 40‑Hour (per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120)
- OSHA 30‑Hour Outreach Trainer (General Industry or Construction)
- Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Wilderness First Aid
- Certified Simulation Specialist (CSS) or equivalent
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Development
- Create detailed, realistic simulation scenarios (e.g., confined‑space rescue, hazardous‑materials release, wildland fire entrapment).
- Draft scripts, injects, and failure modes to stress participants’ decision‑making.
- Logistics & Setup
- Coordinate with Training Program Coordinator for site selection, props, and safety equipment.
- Assemble and test simulation aids (manikins, mock equipment, moulage kits).
- Facilitation
- Lead participant briefings, call‑for‑action injects, and real‑time scenario adjustments.
- Monitor safety “red‑lines” and pause to correct unsafe behaviors immediately.
- Assessment & Debrief
- Observe, record, and grade team and individual performance against learning objectives.
- Conduct structured hot‑wash and after‑action reviews, delivering targeted feedback.
- Continuous Improvement
- Analyze simulation outcomes and refine scenarios for progressive complexity.
- Update simulation libraries to reflect emerging hazards and policy changes.
- Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with Lead and Assistant Instructors to integrate theory and practice.
- Mentor instructors in advanced simulation facilitation techniques.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Fire Science, Occupational Safety, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years facilitating safety or emergency‑response simulations for government or industrial clients.
- Demonstrated proficiency designing multi‑agency, multi‑hazard exercises.
- In‑depth knowledge of USFS/BLM emergency protocols and wildland‑fire behavior.
- Strong background in adult learning theory and scenario‑based training.
- Experience with moulage and realistic role‑player management.
- Proficiency using simulation management software (e.g., SimDesigner, OneSAF).
- Ability to draft clear, objective performance‑measurement rubrics.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel frequently.
- Familiarity with OSHA, NFPA, and interagency wildland‑fire standards.
- Excellent written skills—capable of delivering comprehensive AARs.
- Strong facilitation chops: able to manage stress, ambiguity, and group dynamics.
- Capacity to lift and position up to 50 lbs of gear and props.
- Ability to pass federal background checks and maintain clearance.
