Role Purpose

Direct, plan and oversee the development, implementation & management of the BJH (organizational) Emergency Management (EM) programs and team in accordance with BJC, local, state, federal agency, accreditation requirements & organizational needs. Manage EM Department personnel to complete projects/initiatives, to advance organizational all-hazards readiness, minimize service interruption, & restore normal operations during emergencies & disaster conditions. Continuously evaluate program effectiveness, documentation, structure, & coordinate process improvements to advance EM department vision and re-establish BJH as national leader in healthcare/hospital disaster programming.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: onboarding and hiring, training, workload management & performance evaluations, conducting professional development plans as needed. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • Develops and implements strategies that ensure the organization maintains a state of perpetual readiness for any and all reviews by regulatory agencies and to achieve a level of quality and services that exceed regulatory requirements.
  • Support the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS), including regular incident command exercisers, providing education and training for affected staff, incident response including supporting Incident Commander during activation's.
  • Manage Emergency Management and Incident Management Team meetings. Establish and maintain in accordance with federal, state and local agency and accreditation requirements emergency management/preparedness policies and procedures. Provide technical support, policy interpretation and guidance for department specific emergency plans.
  • Manage organizational Emergency Management Department performance improvement activities, with minimal supervision. Monitors & evaluates organizational emergency management capability progress, for optimal outcomes.
  • BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
  • Minimum Requirements
