Senior Project Manager - Transportation

We are seeking a dynamic Senior Project Manager to join our team and drive these strategic initiatives, contributing to our long-term success in the Northern California transportation market.

The Senior Project Manager will play a pivotal role in leading transportation projects, securing new business, and managing client relationships. This position demands a blend of technical expertise, business development acumen, and strong leadership skills. In addition to ensuring top-notch project execution, you will be responsible for driving design excellence, mentoring team members, and strategically growing our regional presence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Project Leadership:
• Procure and lead complex transportation projects—including those involving federal funding and major improvement initiatives—ensuring high-quality design, budget adherence, and schedule compliance.
• Oversee and provide rigorous quality control for project deliverables, aligning with regulatory and technical standards.
• Business Development & Regional Expansion:
• Actively engage in business development efforts to identify and secure new project opportunities that expand BKF’s regional presence.
• Develop and nurture a network of key contacts in new territories, representing BKF in project interviews and public agency meetings.
• Client & Community Engagement:
• Build and sustain strong relationships with public clients, community stakeholders, and partner agencies, ensuring exceptional service and community integration.
• Serve as a liaison with local communities and public agencies, ensuring project objectives align with community needs and uncovering future opportunities.
• Consultant Coordination & Teaming:
• Coordinate with external consultants, subcontractors, and partner firms to integrate specialized expertise and ensure cohesive project delivery.
• Foster effective teaming between internal and external stakeholders to achieve project goals.
• Team Development & Mentorship:
• Mentor and lead multidisciplinary project teams, providing guidance on technical and design challenges, and facilitating professional growth.
• Conduct regular skills assessments and implement training initiatives to enhance team capabilities.
• Strategic Initiatives:
• Participate in regional planning sessions and strategic workshops to set growth goals and define expansion strategies for unified transportation services across the firm.

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in transportation project management.
• Proven track record in business development and client relationship management, with experience in regional growth initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability in design excellence, team leadership, and mentoring.
• Excellent communication skills and proficiency with project management software.
• Valid California Driver's License; travel between BKF offices and client sites may be required.
• Assist with special projects as needed 

Physical Demands:

Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.

Work Conditions:

 Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.  Travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be required. 

• The typical base salary range for this position is $140,000 - $187,000 annually, depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. This is a salary position paid biweekly.
