Farm Safety Technician

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Farm Safety Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring a safe working environment across various operations, including farm machinery, greenhouse activities, and heavy equipment operation. This position requires a proactive approach to safety management and the ability to supervise and maintain equipment effectively.

Responsibilities

• Assist in field work as necessary by being available to do all field operations.
• Managing all on-farm safety requirements, such as conducting meetings, inspections, and reporting. Accept responsibility for safety and fire prevention by keeping buildings, grounds, and vehicles in good repair.
• Assist manager with all USDA, DOT, OSHA, and pesticide reporting regulations by working with the proper agency to make sure Black Gold Farms is always in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
• Manage seasonal labor activities, including supervision, training, and compliance.
• Responsible for maintaining and keeping all H-2A housing up to code and overseeing any repair and maintenance of housing.
• Maintain, repair, and keep all vehicles and machinery in field ready condition. Keep maintenance records up to date.
• Assist Equipment Specialist in the day-to-day operations on the farm and in the packaging facility as requested.
• Create and maintain an inventory control system using asset essentials to track parts in stock, parts used, and cost per machine to assist the farm manager with future budgets.
• Create and execute a plan to maintain order and tour readiness of all equipment on the yard.
• Create and maintain a parts database for onsite equipment.
• Be aware of the possibility of helping in other Black Gold Farms areas as needed on a limited basis.
• Conduct regular safety inspections of all equipment, including farm machinery and heavy equipment, to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Supervise maintenance activities, ensuring that all repairs are performed safely and efficiently.
• Collaborate with team members to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
• Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training sessions.
• Assist in the development of safety policies and procedures tailored to specific operational needs.
• Provide guidance on safe operating practices for activities and other farm-related tasks.

Position Requirements

• Bilingual: English and Spanish
• Drivers License with clean driving record
• Proven experience in a safety role or related field
• Familiarity with equipment repair and maintenance practices is essential.
• Must be available to work a variable schedule, including weekends

Experience

• Experience supervising teams in agricultural or industrial settings is a plus.
• CPR/First Aid certification
• Basic computer experience
• Knowledge of sweet potato greenhouse management will be beneficial.
• Skills in welding or heavy equipment operation are advantageous but not mandatory.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
