OVERVIEW:
The BHAEC Program is seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Principal. Located in East Moline, Illinois, the BHAEC serves students with disabilities ranging from 3 to 22 years old. RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Principal will be directly responsible to the school Principal. The individual shall provide leadership with administrative and student related services. All duties are considered essential to fulfill the requirements of Assistant Principal.
- Functions as lead building administrator when the Principal is out of the building.
- Assists the Principal in the administration and supervision of the school’s daily operations.
- Supports and oversees instructional programs and interventions.
- Collaborates with teachers, staff and parents to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Facilitates IEP meetings as assigned by the Principal.
- Works collaboratively with the principal on scheduling and staff assignments.
- Manages student behavior and implements strategies to create a positive and safe learning environment.
- Determines appropriate disciplinary action for students.
- Facilitates professional development and training for staff to enhance instructional practices and address student needs.
- Monitors and evaluates student progress and program effectiveness.
- Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as BHASED and policies.
- Engages with parents/guardians, the community, and stakeholders to build strong relationships and support for the program.
- Participates in the evaluation of building staff.
- Participates in the recruitment and selection of staff.
- Oversees the assessment process.
- Assists with the selection, implementation, and monitoring of curriculum.
- Carries out other duties as assigned by the BHAEC Principal or BHASED Director.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching or related service experience, strongly preferred to be in special education.
- Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) and Illinois General Administrative or Principal endorsement required.
- Illinois Special Education licensure preferred
- Demonstrated experience in leadership and school administration, particularly in programs for students with disabilities.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders, including students, parents/guardians, teachers, staff, administration, and community members.
- Experience in managing complex situations and developing effective strategies for student support in various areas, such as autism, severe/profound, behavior, etc.
