Black Hills State University’s College of Education is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Science Teacher Education. The position begins August 25, 2025.
DUTIES
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate students with a focus on developing science concept knowledge, science teaching resources, Next Generation Science Standards, and science instructional practices centered around the importance of providing access for all students to experience science. In addition, the successful candidate will provide leadership in K-12 science education. Collaboration, education and outreach with the Sanford Underground Research Facility will be a critical aspect of this position. Lastly, this position will include excellence in teaching, research, and service.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Doctorate in Science Education, Curriculum and Instruction, STEM Education or an educational field relevant to science education.
- Doctoral candidates who are ABD and near graduation will be considered. Degree completion must occur no later than one year after the initial start date of the contract. The initial contract will be a term contract at the Instructor level, $4,000 lower than the terminal degree compensation. The following years contract will include $4,000 salary increase and assistant professor rank reflecting degree completion. Upon request, one year prior service may be applied toward promotion and tenure, with BHSU and BOR approval.
- The candidate will have a minimum of three years of successful P-12 classroom experience.
- The candidate will possess experience with and knowledge of best practices in working with science-related student activities.
- The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service; will have the ability to connect theory to practice; will work well in collaborative settings; and will work to make connections with schools on a regional and statewide basis.
