Black Lion Products is a leading structural steel fabrication shop, providing high-quality steel components for large-scale projects across the U.S. Our AISC-certified facility spans 380,000 sq ft, and we specialize in precision steelwork and large-scale fabrication. We are looking for a Fabrication Crew Leader to help manage shop operations, ensure quality, and support our growing team.
Position Overview:
The Fabrication Crew Leader plays a key role in managing daily operations on the shop floor. This position requires experience in structural steel fabrication, welding, and team leadership to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the plant manager and office staff to plan and coordinate daily fabrication work.
- Control the flow of work, ensuring the right tasks are assigned to the right crew members.
- Supervise and ensure compliance with safety protocols, promoting a culture of workplace safety.
- Train and develop team members, ensuring they understand production goals, safety, and quality standards.
- Monitor and inspect work for quality, accuracy, and adherence to AISC D1.1 welding standards.
- Enforce marking and inspection protocols, including color-coded system for paint/no-paint areas.
- Maintain an organized and clean work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly handled.
- Report nonconformities, production issues, and personnel concerns to management.
- Support continuous improvement efforts in production efficiency and quality control.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in structural steel fabrication (welding, fitting, or related roles).
- Previous experience in a leadership or crew management role preferred.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, blueprint reading, and AISC standards.
- Ability to train and mentor crew members while maintaining productivity.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills to build a collaborative and efficient team.
