The Accounting Associate for Blacksburg Transit performs administrative work preparing and processing accounts payable, payroll data, credit card accounts, maintaining computerized and paper records system, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Transit Finance & Grants Supervisor.
Shift: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

- Processes payroll hours for the department daily; reviews payroll records for accuracy and completeness
- Processes vendor invoices including account verification, system inputs, records filing
- Maintains accounting, personnel, and travel files
- Reviews and processes weekly credit card purchases for department credit cardholders
- Assists with annual budget entry, and other assigned accounting duties as necessary
- Provides excellent customer service to internal staff, as well as, external customers regarding financial issues, concerns, or questions
- Develops and maintains strong working relationships with Transit staff, as well as, personnel within the Finance, Purchasing and Human Resources departments
- Assists the Transit Finance Manager and Grants Supervisor with other projects as needed
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures
- General knowledge of accounts payable practices and procedures
- Basic knowledge of payroll policies and practices
- General knowledge of bookkeeping terminology, methods, procedures, and equipment
- General knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment
- Ability to perform mathematical computations accurately
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Competent in computer operations and proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite of applications, especially Excel and Outlook
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, business contacts, and the general public
- High School Diploma or GED Certification required
- Associates/Technical degree with coursework in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field and one or more years’ experience working in Accounting, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Valid driver's license in the with a satisfactory driving record
- This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force
- Work regularly requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, frequently requires using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires pushing or pulling and lifting
- Work requires standard and close vision

- Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and operating motor vehicles or equipment

Salary : $36,496 - $37,971
