Position Overview

The Lead Fabricator – Steel will be responsible for overseeing and executing the fabrication of high-end steel components, ensuring all projects meet Blacksmith Sawyer Co.’s rigorous standards for quality, precision, and craftsmanship. In this role, you will lead a team of fabricators, work closely with designers and project managers, and bring complex designs to life through hands-on fabrication and leadership.

This position is ideal for a master fabricator who is passionate about steelwork, thrives in a collaborative environment, and takes pride in delivering exceptional results.

Key Responsibilities

• Fabrication Leadership:

• Lead the fabrication and assembly of custom steel components, ensuring precision and craftsmanship in every detail.
• Serve as the technical expert for steel fabrication, providing guidance and mentorship to junior fabricators.
• Collaborate with designers, engineers, and project managers to interpret drawings and specifications.
• Quality Control:

• Ensure all fabricated steel components meet or exceed Blacksmith Sawyer Co.’s high standards for quality and accuracy.
• Conduct inspections and address any issues promptly to maintain project integrity.
• Team Management:

• Supervise and train a team of fabricators, fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Delegate tasks effectively while maintaining accountability for project timelines and quality.
• Equipment Operation & Maintenance:

• Operate and maintain a variety of fabrication tools and equipment, including welding machines, grinders, plasma cutters, and CNC machinery.
• Ensure all equipment is used safely and maintained in optimal working condition.
• Problem Solving & Innovation:

• Troubleshoot fabrication challenges and develop creative solutions to achieve design goals.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of fabrication processes and techniques.
• Safety & Compliance:

• Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience:

• 7 years of experience in steel fabrication, with a strong portfolio of custom, high-end projects.
• Proven leadership experience, with the ability to guide and inspire a team.
• Technical Expertise:

• Mastery of steel fabrication techniques, including MIG, TIG, and stick welding.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, shop drawings, and CAD designs.
• Skilled in operating fabrication equipment, including CNC machinery (experience with manual machining is a plus).
• Attention to Detail:

• Exceptional attention to detail and craftsmanship to produce top-quality results.
• Strong quality control skills to ensure all components meet specifications.
• Problem-Solving Skills:

• Ability to troubleshoot fabrication and design challenges with creative, effective solutions.
• Education & Certification:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications in welding or fabrication are a plus.
• AWS welding certification or equivalent preferred.
• Soft Skills:

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members and project stakeholders.
• A proactive, self-motivated attitude with a passion for craftsmanship and continuous improvement.
