As a confidential appointee, the Principal reports directly to the Superintendent-Director and works under their authority.Responsibilities: District and Administrative LeadershipWorks in close cohesion with the Superintendent-Director and Assistant Superintendent- Curriculum Director on school-wide initiatives. Promotes and protects the interests of the school district at all times.Participates in state and regional educational endeavors designed to support career technical education.Attends designated meetings of the School Committee and subcommittees as needed. Promotes the principles of teamwork, community involvement, responsibility, ethical behavior, and leadership by example.Establishes procedures that assure compliance and consistency with School Committee policies, administrative directives, negotiated agreements and statutes & regulations that pertain to public education in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.Administers collective bargaining agreements and other contacts with sufficient knowledge and sensitivity to avoid unwarranted grievances and unnecessary liability.Completes annual reports as required by the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE) for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.Communicates with Superintendent-Director and Assistant Superintendent-Curriculum Director regarding system-wide matters of programs, calendars, curricula, and personnel matters.Collaboratively constructs agendas and conducts administrative meetings on a regular basis.Coordinates with the administrative team to revise and maintain a current Faculty Handbook.Is visible at school and community events in an effort to promote the District and School. Contributes to the design of the annual budget and oversees the requisitions for supplies and material relative to the operation of the school building, including professional development, student activities, and office management ensuring the effective allocation of resources.Instructional LeadershipWorks in close cohesion with the Superintendent-Director, hire/evaluate/dismiss professional staff as necessary to serve the best interest and needs of the school district, subject to review and approval by the Superintendent-Director.Assignment of professional staff to fulfill educational objectives and district needs.Ensures that all personnel fulfill their assignments in accordance with standards recognized by law and by agreement.Responsible for the onboarding and training of new instructional and support staff. Works effectively with other administrators and supervisors to ensure quality instruction. Creates and maintains channels of communication with instructional and support staff members. Initiates and recommends continuous improvements for employees, coaches, and all others assigned to the school.
Establishes and monitors extra student educational opportunities and programs such as before/after school remediation classes, summer/Saturday school, AP classes, MCAS, SAT/ACT preparation courses.Staff LeadershipForms task forces to address important system wide issues and to develop recommendations to the Superintendent-Director.Provides and monitors on-going curriculum development and professional development opportunities that enhance a learning environment in support of the district goals.Supervises and evaluates management team members in the performance of their assigned duties and responsibilities, specifically, curriculum development, professional development, staff evaluations, student assessment, program assessment, decorum and deportment, and goal setting.Organizes and supervises assigned office support staff. Promotes and provides for extra-curricular opportunities that foster positive student awareness, participation and growth physically, emotionally and socially in activities that raise self-esteem and team (community) membership, and the opportunities to showcase acquired skills.In conjunction with the Assistant Principals, administer the enforcement of school rules and regulations in school, at all school sponsored events, and within those situations where a nexus exists between the outside activity and an in-school source as stated in the student handbook and other school policy manuals.Creates and maintains channels of communication with students, student leaders and student organizations. Ensures the maintenance of accurate financial records for the collection and allocation of all extra-curricular and student activity funds. Work in coordination with the Director of Student Services on the successful implementation and maintenance of special education programs, guidance, and student support services. Oversees the coordination and preparation of school-wide events, such as but not limited to, open houses, curriculum nights, annual award ceremonies, scholarship nights, honor society inductions, motivational speakers, and graduation exercises.
