The Town of Bladensburg is proud to be a full-service workforce of about thirty-one sworn officers and twelve civilian staff, that are as diverse as the community we serve. Only applicants currently certified as a police officer in Maryland or requiring comparative compliance will be considered at this time. Police officers currently work 12-hour rotating shifts. Starting salary $69,284.80/year.
Applicants for all positions must pass a background investigation as well as physical, psychological and polygraph testing. Applicants must demonstrate basic computer skills. Bi-lingual applicants are encouraged to apply.
Typical Duties:
Patrol assigned area to include all public and private businesses and residences, parking areas, and streets.
Direct vehicular traffic; enforce traffic laws; direct pedestrian traffic.
Enforce all applicable city, local, state and federal laws.
Investigate crimes; secure and protect the scene of a crime and the immediate area surrounding the crime scene so that no evidence is disturbed.
Make arrests of persons observed or suspected of committing crimes.
Prepare comprehensive reports and testify in court proceedings.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required for all positions.
Hold a Maryland Police Certification.
Licenses and Certifications:
State Certified Police Officer.
Valid State Driver's License.
Firearms Qualification.
