What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grading Crew Equipment Operator / Laborer position at Blaktop Inc?
Overview
The successful candidate will be an integral member of a two-person grade crew, assisting the foreman with setting grades and operating a motor grader and skid steer to place and grade gravels. Work may also include operating a mini excavator to complete various earthwork activities as well as assisting the paving crews when needed. The ideal candidate will have prior equipment operator experience, job site layout experience, be self-motivated, and have a good work ethic.

Duties, Responsibilities, & Requirements
- Show up to work on time & on a regular basis.
- Assist with equipment moves.
- Truck materials to and from the jobsite as needed.
- Meet with the superintendent and/or salesman to inspect the jobsite and review the requirements of the job.
- Job site layout.
- Operate a motor grader, skid steer, and mini excavator to grade gravels to the proper pitch and elevations.
- Assist the paving crews when needed with site prep such as sweeping and cold milling as well as the installation of hot mix asphalt.
- Perform manual labor duties such as raking and shoveling gravels as needed.
- Assist with preventative equipment maintenance, such as greasing and checking fluids.
- Assist with keeping equipment clean.
- Complete daily paperwork, such as filling out job cards, equipment inspections, etc.
- Comply with safety rules & work in a safe manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to do basic math and layout a jobsite, such as line and grade.
- Excavator and heavy equipment operator experience preferred.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- CDL-A license preferred; CDL-B required.
- Ability to work independently & as a team.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy loads and perform manual labor.
- Strong work ethic.
Work Environment
- Work will primarily occur outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather conditions.
- Will be required to work overtime and sometimes weekends.
- Work will occur in a road construction type setting, which will involve exposure to various hazards such as dust, vehicle traffic, elevated noise levels, etc.
