We are on the lookout for a passionate Director of Beach Services (or Beach Club Manager as we call it) to join our team and help us build something super special. We’re a daily pop-up paradise, offering beach rentals (think luxe lounge chairs, breezy cabanas, and fun games) plus cozy community spaces for locals and visitors alike.
As the Beach Club Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring beachgoers and club members have an unforgettable time soaking up the sun and enjoying all the activities we have to offer. Your exceptional leadership skills will inspire our staff to deliver top-notch service while maintaining a fun and welcoming atmosphere. From managing reservations and weekly revenue reports with Bliss Beach management team, to training and mentoring team members, you’ll play a pivotal role in fostering a lively community that keeps guests and team coming back year after year. Seasonal / 30-40 hours per week ~mid April-October with the aspiration of starting back in February / March
Responsibilities:
Staff Management & Supervision
- Develop and implement procedures to ensure smooth operations
- Supervise and train front desk and field staff
- Manage staff schedules, ensuring adequate coverage and efficient operations
- Maintain open communications with staff, keeping them informed of important updates, procedures and improvements
- Monitor team performance, providing feedback and reviews for team
- Address staff issues and concerns to mgmt in a timely and effective manner
- Club Manager should have the ability to fulfill any role of the staff they supervise (Front Desk Lead/Attendant and Field Team Lead/Beach Attendant)
Front Desk Duties:
- Club Manager may fill opening, closing or midday shifts
- Perform front desk opening tasks, including but not limited to the setup of merchandise, POS system and signage
- Serve as the primary point of contact for guests at the front desk
- Greet guests and respond to guest requests in a timely, friendly manner
- Be knowledgeable about all package details, rental and sale items, answering questions to inquiring guests, selling and upselling where possible
- Efficiently use onsite tablet and booking system for pre-reserved and walk-up guests, gathering guest details and payment details, getting to know guests
- Assign guests to lounges based on availability and needs
- Facilitating guest add-on requests for equipment and merchandise
- Handle credit card transactions accurately and efficiently
- Communicate with Beach Attendants for escort and turnover needs
- Ensure the front desk is stocked with needed rentals, including towels, and merchandise, maintaining a clean and organized offering
- Ensure front desk is attended at all times
- Perform front desk closing duties in line with daily Breakdown protocols and Field Lead delegations, including the safe storage of merchandise and front desk equipment
Field Team Duties:
- Club Manager may cover build or breakdown shifts
- For build, pick up van each morning, be the first to the beach and set footprint
- Setup and breakdown equipment, including but not limited to beach chairs, umbrellas, shade canopies, front desk, shelves, towels and retail items.
- Lead Field Support staff in delegating daily setup and breakdown tasks, assuring timely completion and highest standard of safety and quality
- Maintain stock, quality, cleanliness and presentation of rentals and sales items
- Maintain a clean beach area and clean rental spaces, including but not limited to collecting used towels, reseting spaces, cleaning gear and picking up trash.
- Document equipment damages and stock issues, communicating with fellow Field Lead for shift change
- Welcome and assist guests, guiding them to rental spaces and acting as host
- Facilitate equipment, food or beverage add-on orders or requests
- Assist Front Desk staff as needed, including coverage during breaks
- Walk the beach every 15 minutes to be available to guests
- For breakdown, lead the efficient breakdown of all equipment for a timely closure
- Ensure all equipment is stored safely and securely before departure
- Safely park the van and fulfill changeover protocols (returning keys, leaving notes)
- Comply with all Bliss Beach and City of Santa Barbara standards to ensure safe and compliant operations
Monthly Reporting:
- Provide monthly reports to Bliss Beach Management team on reservation and revenue data; provide insight into daily operations and areas for improvement; provide suggestions and feedback
- Assist with other duties and projects as assigned by Bliss Beach Management
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices in guest services and front desk operations
Qualifications:
- Any combination of education and experience will be considered. Bachelor's degree in hospitality management or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in front desk management or related role in the hospitality industry
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire staff
- Drivers license, ability to drive oversized van
- Knowledge of hospitality industry standards and procedures
- Ability to handle stressful situations and resolve guest complaints effectively
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Familiarity with budgeting, financial reporting, and inventory management
- Passion for the beach lifestyle and delivering exceptional guest experiences
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work outdoors in the sun and sand
- Ability to stand for up to 5 hours at a time
- Must have physical stamina to lift moderate weights up to 50lbs
- Ability to push and pull heavy amounts of weight up to 100lbs
- Ability to perform tasks that require gripping, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, twisting, crouching, carrying, walking
