What are the responsibilities and job description for the Park Host position at Block by Block?
Job Summary:
Park Hosts will patrol on foot, bike and/or vehicle. Park Hosts provide a security presence, are a source of information, and extend a welcoming invitation to visitors to enjoy the various amenities and activities in the park. Park Hosts are responsible for providing a visible uniformed presence within the park, performing necessary environmental maintenance duties, which ensures the park is a welcoming and engaging space.
Essential Functions:
- Serves as a visible, uniformed deterrent by adhering to uniform standard and management route assignments.
- Observes and reports while on patrol, either foot, bike, or vehicle, and is watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and reports to local authorities via established communication methods.
- Addresses unwanted activities by firmly and courteously requesting compliance to persons violating low level quality of life crimes, such as aggressive panhandling, loitering, disruptive behavior, etc.
- Provides hospitality and customer service by actively acknowledging pedestrians with a friendly greeting and providing directions and assisting residents and visitors.
- Provides maintenance and upkeep in the park, including detailed cleaning and frequent audits of parks grounds.
- Oversees planned park activities, which may include facilitating family-friendly activities, as well as assisting with programs and events.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with Residents, Merchants, Employees, Visitors, and Law Enforcement. Assists various agencies in communicating criminal activity, especially "quality of life crimes", such as panhandling, public intoxication, public urination, loitering, and trespassing.
- Routinely meets with neighborhood leadership, provides feedback and actively participates in problem solving in order to establish and maintain good working relationships. Works collaboratively with local law enforcement and other city entities to identify neighborhood quality-of-life issues, and develops collaborative plans of action and implements projects and programs to resolve disruptive behavior.
- Develops, documents and creates written incident reports and action plans, as well as documents and/or logs daily accomplishments and tasks completed.
- Maintains a positive, professional environment in full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures and overall Block by Block standards of expected professionalism.
- Demonstrates prompt and reliable attendance to meet expected productivity standards.

Experience
Mental Health Case Management experience; (3- - 5 years) preferred.
- Reliable and accountable individual with a strong work ethic and personal integrity.
- Excellent communication skills with a positive attitude.

- Able to resolve conflict and escalate as necessary.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment with an excellent attention to detail and dedication to safety.

License/Certificates:
- Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license.
- Successful registration of OPISGS security license.
- Must be able to pass basic first aid and CPR.
Physical Abilities:
- Must articulate an accurate description of persons, vehicles, and other similar identifiers.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports and maintain effective and professional communication with all Park Hosts, Team Leads, Management, and stakeholders.
- Must have the physical capacity to traverse, ride a bike, and/or operate a vehicle continuously during an eight-hour shift, with normal breaks (two fifteen minutes, and one thirty-minute meal break).
- Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions with provided inclement weather gear.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
