Job Description SUMMARY: Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Director of Student Success Programs provides leadership and oversees the units that support student success. This position develops academic student success initiatives to increase retention, graduation rates and career goals for all students. The Director is responsible for envisioning and building the unit within Academic Affairs and forge a strong partnership with all constituents at Montclair State University. The Director directly supervises the Center for Student Success which includes oversight of the following departments: Center for Academic Advising and Career Education (CAACE); Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF), TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program; the TRIO McNair Scholar Program, and Office of Tutoring, Writing, and Academic Support Services (OTWASS). PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee the implementation and success of all departments within the auspices of the Center for Student Success in concert with the College's mission and resources. Lead assessment and continuous improvement for all CSS initiatives and reporting areas. Implement a first year, sophomore, junior and senior experience with focus on academic advisement and student success. Provide leadership to improve student retention, degree completion, career preparation and post graduate success. Ensure one-on-one student success coaching sessions with students from year one to year 4 and beyond. Oversee efforts by Student Success Coaches to promote student self-awareness, career exploration, professional development, and academic planning. Manage relationships with constituents: faculty, alumni, staff, employers, deans, division chairs, trustees and vice presidents. Work with the Registrar to serve as the campus advocate for students. Develop department goals, assessments of services, student learning outcomes, and analytical reports. Work closely with Admissions and Enrollment Management in support of student recruitment and retention including summer program initiatives, outreach to prospective and returning students, and related roles. Implement and manage various technologies, software, and on-line databases as well as Starfish to support the delivery of effective academic and coaching services to students. Manage the department's budget and secure funding sources to supplement the College's financial support. Perform other duties as assigned Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time. QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: Master's degree from accredited college or university in Higher Education or related field; A minimum of five years of leadership experience at the Director level (Assistant/Associate Director or Director) in student success and retention with experience in student success programs and campus wide initiatives Experience in Career Services and Academic Advising Evidence of leadership in decision-making, performance management, and problem-solving Experience working with first generation, underserved student populations Experience working with professional academic advisors and TRIO programs Proven ability to deliver services in the functional areas of student support services, which include advising, career services, tutoring, coaching and mentoring Ability and willingness to learn new student and staff information systems as they are implemented.
