Job Description:
The Center for Student Success Peer Success Coaches are student leaders that provide life skills mentoring and tutoring for their fellow students. Peer Success Coaches assist students with developing a success-oriented growth mindset. They tutor time management and organization strategies, communication skills, and methods for overcoming challenges and acquiring new and improved habits.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Working primarily in the Center for Student Success, Peer Success Coaches assist Peers with college student development and accountability. Work with 1 to 3 (or more based on schedule and demand) students at a time and help with Center for Student Success programming. Examples of some tasks are outlined below. Tasks will be assigned based on individual student experience.
- Coordinate and support a team of first year peer leaders in developing and delivering activities and presentations in their assigned first year seminars.
- Staff the Summer Success Academy.
- Facilitate Success Study Sessions.
- Attend weekly team meetings/professional development and periodic administrative meetings and/or ad hoc training.
Peer Success Coaches are trained in tutoring and coaching pedagogy in our REQUIRED 0-1 credit online asynchronous training course (COLL 21500). This 7-module course is self-paced so that PSCs can coach as they learn. Experienced seniors may be exempt from taking COLL 21500, as are students who have taken BIOL 280 or PHYS 280 or ICSM 20000.
Qualifications:
Good academic standing & recommended by faculty/staff (GPA 3.0 or above)
Excellent judicial standing (no current Student Conduct violations)
Excellent communication skills
Desire to grow and learn
Commitment to student success
One year of experience at Ithaca College (although well-adjusted transfer students and second semester first year students can apply)
Preferred Qualifications - all of the above, plus:
Excellent academic standing
Student leadership experience
Experience with program development and facilitation
Experience with diverse populations
Understands the principles of cultural humility and safety for diverse populations
Pay Rate: $15.80-$16.10
