Job Title: Maintenance - Plumber
Assignment: Facilities and Maintenance Department, Maintenance Services Team
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalency;
- Trade or vocational school training;
- Any combination of progressively responsible specialized experience in the plumbing trade disciplines totaling six (6) years of certification or licenses:
- Journeyman plumber
- Journeyman gas fitter
- Licensed Backflow Prevention Inspector – City of Bloomfield
- Certified Gas Pipe Welder
- Licensed boiler operator
- Certified in Pipeline Safety
- Irrigation
- Metal work/welding
- Heating, ventilation and air conditioning maintenance
- Training in heavy equipment operation
- Completed OSHA 10 hour General Industry Outreach Course
- Extensive knowledge of six (6) of the specialties, extensive knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades;
- Required to maintain the following:
- Valid New Mexico Journeyman Gas license.
- Valid New Mexico Journeyman Plumbing license.
- Licensed Backflow Prevention Inspector – City of Bloomfield
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from sketches, diagrams and construction drawings; to make cost estimates of time and materials; to function as a consultant and/or inspector in areas of specialization; and
- Current New Mexico Driver’s License with insurable driving record.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects.
- Knowledge of all applicable plumbing and mechanical codes.
- Four years of experience as a certified New Mexico plumber with state contractor.
Skills/Aptitudes:
- Must be able to read mechanical, electrical, and plumbing schematics specifications; and
- Must be able to perform plumbing work in a manner that satisfies requirements established in regulations and standards governing plumbing work.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Performs troubleshooting, repairs and preventative maintenance with a high degree of skill related to specialized maintenance work in the trade specific disciplines. Instructs, trains, leads and supervises less skilled tradesmen in the completion of trade specific work;
- Provides excellent customer service;
- Upon approval of supervisor, purchases supplies as needed to perform work. Considers the purchase of materials that provide the best value to the District;
- Coordinates and performs quality control of contractors hired to perform plumbing maintenance repairs. Dispatches and schedules contractors for regular and emergency work upon approval by supervisor;
- Prepares job estimates and prioritizes materials, time, and labor required to complete assignments in a safe, effective and efficient manner;
- Receives and accurately records all work performed in the District electronic work order system. Properly accounts for costs including hours worked, materials used and contracted services used to complete work order;
- Uses and maintains tools, equipment and vehicles assigned and assures that all is maintained and used safely as outlined by manufacturer and or preventative maintenance procedures;
- Performs all work using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with Maintenance Safety Plan;
- Assists Facilities and Maintenance Manager in planning projects;
- Serves as a consultant to supervisor in areas of expertise;
- Employee may be assigned to do installs/ replacements in accordance to district having a MM98 Mechanical License;
- Complies with state-approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and the BSD Employee Standards of Conduct and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations; and
- Employee may be assigned other duties based on the needs of the District during the term of employment.
Work Hours:
- Eight (8) Hours per day/260 Day Contract;
- Supervisor may assign additional work hours;
- Employee performs On-Call and Call-Back duties as assigned; and
- Employee is required to perform Emergency Call-Back.
