Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Probation Officer manages a caseload of offenders. Additionally, the incumbent ensures that offenders are complying with any orders from the court.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Manages a caseload by meeting with offenders on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis to ensure the offenders are following all rules of the Court and completing all requirements and reporting violations to the Court;
Teach a Batterer's Intervention Program for domestic violence offenders;
Teach driving school to traffic offenders while following all rules and guidelines of Blount County Probation, TN Safety Council, National Safety Council, and TN Department of Safety;
Refers offenders to A and D assessments;
Performs observed alcohol and drug screens;
Files and organizes paperwork;
Scans and attaches documents to customer files;
Accepts, receives, and/or collects payments;
Processes and organizes mail;
Performs data entry into Department databases;
Assists, answers questions and interacts with fellow employees and the general public;
Create, Maintain, and send caseload status reports to Director on a regular basis;
Work in the courtroom as offenders are referred to BCP for Supervision, Community Service, Driving School, Batterer’s Intervention Program, or DUI School;
File Violation of Probation warrants with the Courts as needed;
Performs inventory/property management and monitoring of GPS/Alcohol monitoring offenders as needed;
Works an on-call schedule as needed; and
Perform other job-related duties.
Job Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK
Minimum four (4) years of experience in a criminal justice or a social services agency providing counseling services or shall have a bachelor's degree or associate's degree from an accredited college or university;
Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
Valid driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Knowledge of court policies, practices, and procedures;
Knowledge of departmental practices and systems;
Knowledge of human behavior and performance regarding individual differences in ability, personality, and interests, learning, and motivation;
Skilled in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems;
Skilled in using computers for data entry;
Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted;
Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and an orientation towards customer service;
Ability to organize, and communicate effectively;
Ability to maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with others; and
Ability to cooperate with fellow employees as a team member.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, reach and manipulate objects, tools and/or controls. The position requires mobility. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 20 pounds on a regular basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment, such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator and similar machines. The position requires hearing, mental acuity, speaking, and visual acuity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Most work is performed in a well-lighted, modern office setting with centrally controlled heating and air conditioning.

Salary : $41,420 - $62,075
