What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Underwriter position at Blue Cross Blue Shield of IL, MT, NM, OK & TX?
JOB PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for quoting and rating proposals and renewal projections and also approves cases within established authority guidelines.
- Bachelor's degree OR two years' experience in a group health insurance function.
- Math skills including the four basic math calculations (addition, subtraction, division and multiplication) along with the ability to estimate for mathematical reasonableness.
- Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain business relationships.
- Independent judgment and problem resolution skills.
- Work management skills including the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time and workload to meet deadlines.
- Verbal and written communication skills to include correct grammar, word choice, precision, conciseness, structure, audience appropriate tone and language.
- PC proficiency to include Word and Excel.
PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of health care products and covered eligibility.
- Knowledge of state and federal legislation governing underwriting practices.
